So far, just a Hard Hat tonneau cover. Looking for mud guards and nerf boards.

My dealer said to bring it in every 6 months initially to get the full benefit of the free 2 year Toyota maintenance. After that I'll stick with the 10K miles or 1 year schedule for oil changes.

My guess is that they won't change the oil at 5,000. Toyota is not going to pay for that. They want me to change the oil that often because it drives their revenue. Since I retired, I only put 5,000 a year on my vehicle. I will not spend that kind of money to pad his pocket. Plus, its a waste of resources.

If I only put 5k on a year I'd probably change mine annually.

If they will agree to this ^^, I wouldn't put up a fight, but if they are insisting you do it and pay for the off-cycle, then no thanks.

However, if you (OP) are only putting 5k a year on, you might as well take them up on it since your 2 years will be up without getting full advantage of the service.

Yeah... most vehicles that use synthetic oil, the manufacturer will tell you to change the oil every 10,000 or every year, whichever comes first. For you, every year is the best frequency.

OMG how many times do we have to go through this? If you read the maintains Manuel properly, it states at the very beginning 5,000 miles then it goes on to state both 5,000 for dirtier driving and 10,000 for normal. Toyota commercials state 5,000 miles. I'm doing 5,000 I can't tell whether or not I qualify for the dirty whatever it's considered. Is free make them do the 5,000.

Do all the 16 tacomas come with the 2 year free maintenance? Right after I took delivery they called to schedule an appointment in May. When I bought the Lexus they did one service for free and I dont think that included an oil change.

took mine to the dealer yesterday for the 5000 maintenance. They just rotated the tires and washed it for me. Oil change at 10,000.

There is a maintenance guide floating around somewhere which details what they do at every mileage. It's set up for every 5000, and it has things like rotating tires and retorquing various bolts on the vehicle. It also says oil change every 5000 if the truck is being driven hard or for very short trips.

Definitely bring it in every 5000 or 6 months for the first two years, they are expecting you to.

If you also look at the previous page of the manual it says every 5,000 miles or six months. It goes on to explain how you go by which ever comes first. I would make them change the oil after 5,000 that's even what their commercials say.

Here are the sections from the owners manual. Oil changes are every 10,000 (including the very first at 10,000), unless you meet one of the extreme driving definitions or switch from synthetic.

I think you're reading it wrong. Look at the list under 5,000 miles under dirty or dusty conditions. "replace engine oil and oil filter".

You are right that I missed that one. But there is still no change at 5,000 for normal driving conditions as was insinuated above.

I've edited my posts to not spread misinformation.

All this confusion is mostly due to misunderstandings between the terms "maintenance" and "oil change". There is maintenance every 5k (or 6 months), just not oil changes every maintenance.

Even the dealerships are confused, lol.

So is synthetic supposed to be used on the first change? I'm changing my own oil pretty soon (1,800 miles currently) so im curious as to using synthetic. I was thinking 0-20w mobil 1.

I do plan on using the free toyota oil change at 10k miles but this being a new vehicle and all, it deserves an oil change sooner.
