We are taking a trip to Yosemite Halloween weekend and would like to know the best spots for fishing the Merced, preferrably near North Pines Campground. Also what lures work over there since the park only allows for artificial lures with barbless hooks. Keep in mind we are all going to be rookie fisherman but any advice is appreciated.

In the Sierra's (Yosemite and Sequoia), I use salmon eggs on a single salmon egg hook (barbless of course).

I'd head across the park to tuolumne meadows....very limited fishing experience in yos np but it sure was cool catching browns in an alpine meadow lol

I second the notion of going to Tuolumne meadows. Dog lake is also a very short hike from Tuolumne campground.
