Seems that for 2016 Toyota got rid of the trac/atrac nomenclature for the auto trans 4x4. Only the 6mt OR has atrac now. The OR auto only has auto-lsd. Are they the same thing?

Does anybody know if auto lsd works in 4-lo? Owners Manual doesn't say

Yeah, MTS just alters the parameters for ATRAC in an attempt to improve performance based on the terrain selected... But auto-lsd and ATRAC are VERY similar in reality. One is designed for very low speeds (ATRAC/MTS) and one is designed for street speeds (auto-lsd).

All of the above are just lines of code that send out various signals to some mechanism that will engage the braking system. They will also send signals to cut throttle but no need for a mechanism in this case because throttle is electronically controlled already.

Thanks for the link. I studied this and think I finally get it. One difference with the 3rd gens is I think in 4-lo the "trac" stays on. My understanding is that with the 2nd gen 4-lo turns of "trac" basically giving you 2 fully open diffs.

I went out to my limited 3rd gen and put it in 4-lo and the vsc went off but the trac did not go off automatically. I could turn track off by holding down the vsc button for 3 minutes. I think this is a good thing. Seemed like the gen 2 people did something called a "yellow wire mod" to be able to keep trac on in 4-lo. Cheers
