    2010 Off Road
Hey all, new here and so far have appreciated reading all over the forums. I have a 2010 Tacoma Off Road (or whatever it was back then, I had the stickers removed) and have been waiting on the 16s. Torn between the Limited and the TRD Off Road.

I have been wanting leather for a while now. I guess it isnt the realist of leathers but I think the limited interior looks great. Also think it would be better for having a dog to have easier surface to clean. I also like the swag, but I would get the tech pack in the TRD Off Road anyways.

I am worried about the ride versus the Off Road, which I do not go off road. I have a good amount of land but I am in the lowlands in the SC and everything is flat. I want the 4x4 mainly for getting the boat out the water, my 2wd failed again this past weekend at a ramp, real muddy.

One of my biggest hold ups with the Limited is the chrome door handles and side view mirrors. Ugh. I have always disliked a bunch of chrome. Is there anyway those parts could be replaced with color matching parts from the factory or be ordered in to replace the chrome?

So the suspension and the chrome hold me back...what can I do or maybe should I do or think of doing?

    I would appreciate any input.

    Thanks

    Bobby

Toyota seems to think that if they stick a bunch of chrome everywhere, it makes a vehicle more snazzy, thus justifying the name "limited".

To me it looks like somebody got carried away with the JC Whitney catalog.

I am very happy with my Limited , and you can get the Limited in 4WD , I test drove a 4WD and found it to be slower and heavier feeling . I don't off road much but if I do what I have will handle where I go .

I completely agree with you about the chrome. I bought a limited because I wanted a blue or quicksand off road. Waited for a month and got impatient. A blue limited arrived and wasn't spoken for. Really like the leather and will be figuring out as my wallet allows to get the chrome replaced with color matched items. I only test drove the off road on the road so I can't report on how it drives off road but on road it handled stiffer. I have taken mine off road several times and can confirm that it can take a beating and feels like it soaks up the bumps well. Huge difference in on and off road manners once I got rid of the michelins 265 60 18.i put on hankook dynapro atm's 265 65 18, Much stiffer ride and a lot less roll when cornering. Michelins are good for mileage but have the spongiest side walls I've ever experienced.

The ride in the Off Road is nice. Get an Off Road and add Katzkin Leather. DONE!

you can get the limited and change the chrome. Mine rides just fine. Besides, if you dont like the ride...you are changing the shocks anyway. So many people are going with the 5100's

you also get 18 inch wheels with the limited

I was literally in same boat as you....For me the deal breaker was the unpainted overfenders on the OR. I also came to the conclusion that I would absolutely never really need crawl control (though I did want it)...As for the suspension, I too also contemplated the OR suspension, but I have to say I am pleased with the LTD; it handles like a truck in that you will fell the bumps in the road, but it will absorb pretty much all of the shock (~90+% est.). ans even the chrome, while i don't usually like it, and would be fine without it, isn't atrocious; the fact that the bumpers are color coded helps. Overall, I love my choice to go with the Limited 4X4

I completely agree on the overfenders.

I cannot get straight answer from dealership on changing the handles and side view mirrors. I have 0 experience with car work.

Is the 5100 what people are adding to give a lift or just different shocks?

Just get a Sport and add leather. That's what I did. I didn't want or need any of the other features the Limited came with and wasn't a huge fan of the hickory leather. So I chose my own and had it done aftermarket for $1500.

What love a new 2016 Limited. Sun roof option was a must this year.

There is less chrome on the 16 Limited vs the 2015 and prior Limited. The 16 door handles are part chrome and part painted to match the vehicle. In pictures I was not a fan of the chrome either, however seeing it in person made all the difference. I think vehicle color is also important when considering the chrome. To me I do not like Black and Chrome together - it seems to make chrome stand out more. If factory leather is a must then get the Limited. The 18's on the Limited are the best wheels of the bunch (imho), but if you get an OR or Sport consider the huge chrome(ish) grille that they come with. I've heard of wraps and such for covering existing chrome. Best of luck.

Had a trd-or 6mt on order for 8 weeks, locked in a price for my trade in so could have waited forever I guess. Then I had second thoughts about getting a manual so I went to a dealer who had both an inferno OR auto with non jbl tech and a blue limited. Ended up taking the blue limited home and cancelling the order for the manual OR. Lost some nights of sleep second guessing myself though.

Can any of the Toyota part vendors comment on switching out chrome handles and side mirrors with black or body color?

I think the wrap probably holds up pretty well. It's a vinyl wrap after all, the same stuff you would use as a clear bra to protect the hood or front bumper from dings (rock chips).
