What happened to the outside thermometers in the 2014/15 Tacomas

None Has a black topper

I am new on this web site. I have a 2015 Tacoma.
It was quite a surprise when I discovered that my Tacoma doesn't have an outside thermometer!!!
I'm would like to find out why the outside thermometer was removed on the 2014 and 2015 Tacoma.
Did some senior executive decide to take them out or was it engineering screw up?
Also
Is the wiring harness for the 2014/15 Tacoma the same as the 2013 Tacoma?
