Are there any ARB techs or subject-matter experts out there? I am consistently having problems with my ARB CKMA12 compressor.. I have spoken to ARB techs several times, have had my compressor replaced once and now recently received a new complete wiring harness. My compressor will run through one cycle (until the internal tank is full)... shut off, and then a few seconds later the compressor will *kick* as if it is a quick bit of power to the compressor motor, and then blow the 40A fuse... this never fails.. The only thing I can think of is it is an internal problem once again, and I will have to be without a compressor once again for 2 months until they send me a new one. Thoughts?

Also this could be a common thread for ARB TECH TALK in general, any questions / comments about ARB or if there are any ARB techs / SMEs on Tacomaworld, this could be a place to ask a tech. thanks in advance!

Sounds to me like the head pressure is not releasing like it should.

Then the pressure switch could be calling for more air before the head pressure has a chance to bleed off

So when the compressor goes to restart it is under pressure so would cause the fuse to open because of the increased load on the compressor

did you by mistake plug the relief port??

If the techs at ARB are anything like some at other tech support they just sit at a computer and type in your symptoms .

Not really a relief port on the arb compressors. I am piped from the main and only output other than where the solenoids attach. I can't think of why the compressor would make an additional jolt a few seconds after it cycles off. Maybe a bad pressure switch? Or internals. It's already been rebuilt by ARB once

I have had 2 styles of ARB compressors. I will do my best to explain the different scenarios.
    1. CKMA12:
I used the full length of the ARB wiring harness. At the time, I had the OEM alternator (80 amps) which @ idle was not enough the keep the compressor working as you could hear it 'labor' to pump up my tank (driver side slider). I up-graded alternators and all was good. One day, I was blowing out the broken glass in the cab after being violated by some jagoffs... the compressor was running... no air. The rod bolt grenaded inside the compressor. Matt @ ARBUSA sent me a complete set-up, free of charge. Then the CKMTA12 came out... had to have it as I had since went to larger tires and wanted the added volume. Sold the CKMA12.

    2. CKMTA12 (twin):
This thing is a beast compared to what I had. It pulls more amperage than the other so... the harness got hot and melted the connections points at the compressor. I installed quality components to make the repair. That is the only issue I've had with it.

    To the point:
You may not be making enough power at idle to run the compressor effectively. Check that as this was the case for me.
Also, your compressor 'purging' is normal after it reaches max pressure. I don't read instructions, but it's in there.

The fact you are blowing fuses may be as simple as not having enough power upon the second kick in and, since it's been struggling due to low amps, it and the wiring harness are Africa HOT as is the in-line fuse... and it blows. Grab a volt/ ohm meter and check it before anything else.
It may be something as simple as an alternator up-grade to remedy your situation.

I hope I've given something to go off of.

    Good luck.

I contacted ARB after they sent me a new harness and that did not correct it, I have a '15 and the alternator, per them, puts out plenty. After I called them back about the harness, they sent me a brand new compressor and said it must be an internal problem. Put in the new compressor, and no issues what so ever. Now if only I had a twin =\ I hear Wayyy better performance from it. I am only using mine now for OBA. No lockers

The 'twins' are nice. The separate tank (optional) is needed if you are running lockers. It runs them without issues.

The plus is airing up... performs quickly if you have an air tank, which depends on your tire size, what you aired down to and what psi you run on the road.
Runs my 1/2" impact well too. Break out the hi-lift, crank up on the slider, great for rotating tires quickly.
