I figured you wouldn't have an answer. Do you know how our suspension works and how it's all connected together? Obviously not. Sit back down. :smack:

I took those classes, I am still wondering how the geometry of the suspension changes from changing the shock.

The biggest effect it will have is because You are adding a block in between upper and lower spring pads—a space shared with the coil springs. If you add a 2-inch spacer without somehow adding 2 inches of droop to your suspension (maybe longer shocks and sway bar links), then you’ve effectively reduced your available collapsed length between the spring pads by 2 inches. If your coil comes close to completely collapsed at full compression, then this might limit up travel.

Exactly. You're not changing the mounting points of the control arms or steering rack from where they pivot. If you remove the strut assembly and cycle the suspension everything will be exactly where it's going to be at any given point no matter what's installed in the strut assembly.

In park yes it's the same when moving you have limited your travel therefore there geometry can not and will not be the same

Really? This guy with a dozen posts comes in here just to insult me and tried to explain something and he's not even talking about the same type of spacers this entire argument is about...and I'm the bad guy?!? Hahaha :bananadead:

Stacked spacer lift, 22x12 wheels with stretched 33's, tow mirrors, bull nuts.
I had a spacer lift on my '09 Tacoma, while it helped me clear larger tires, it flexed like shit and wheel travel was limited. If I never traveled off road it wouldn't matter. I put 50k on that spacer lift with no issues other than the shitty flex and making my already crappy stock leaf pack sag like a gang bangers pants. I decided on my '14 not to skimp out suspension wise and man is it night and day difference. I've now tried spacer/leveling kit, Old Man emu springs/shocks, and now Icon Extended Travel coilovers and shocks (kept the Old Man Emu springs in the rear).

In the spirit of bench racing. If you do not change the mounting points of the control arms, if you retain the original spindle then is not the suspension moving through the same arc? I think the point that is being made by pro spacer users is what is the difference between a top spacer, a coil spacer, and spring seat change to the geometry of the suspension(not to be confused with ride quality because these will impact differently)if the shock and control arms are still using the factory mounting points.

The arc of the suspension has not been modified with any of these lift, it is only where in the arc that has changed by the amount of lift. Correct?

If that is correct. then I think the a point could be made that on the components the stress is different because it rides outside the intended range of the arc that factory intended. Hence the additional stress on the shock. So my thought is that the success of the Bilstein lift is in that the shock stem is more robust then the OEM shock? I dont know but I am throwing out that thought. Could be that the quality of the weld of the shock stem comes more into play with the increase stress no matter which model of the shock.

Probable potential is that the shock is the limiting factor the suspension that is was not designed to do in this application and that a proper bump stop can remove that concern and give better reliability to the spacer lift.

So I am not seeing where the spacer is the problem but more along the lines maybe the shock.

.02 cents worth of opinion. Nothing more maybe less...
