I have a 2007 Tacoma Pre Runner 4.0 v6 2WD auto with about 89k. I want to do my first oil change BUT I'm not sure if the previous owner used regular or synthetic, does it matter which I use?

You can use either or, it won't matter.

Use whatever you're going to use. As long as it's changed on a regular basis.

All of my vehicles get Mobil1 synthetic. Next time the light pops up I'm sending a sample in to blackstone to see how it looks. I've always wanted to do it, but never have. :notsure:

The "maint required" light just started flashing and wasn't sure what intervals the previous owner changed it. He told I had another 2k miles but I don't want to even take a chance and go any longer I already checked it and it doesn't smell to bad but def could use a change.

I wouldn't trust the smell of it. Just change it with whatever you're going to use. It sounds like if he knew the oil change was coming up soon(and it was)than he probably took care of it.

If your nose is that good, I hope you are making big bucks as a Sensory Analyst!

(if motor oil smells really bad - burnt or rancid - damage is already done. So don't wait for that as a change guide!)

I just compare it to the smell of freshly changed as to the stuff you change every 3k or whenever you do it

Make sure you drain the oil pan not the transmission pan.
