Sometimes a little organization goes a long way.

Today I found this white plastic bin in my garage and tried it in the truck bed and it fit right in. I'm going to see if I like it there for daily driver duties. It sits flush with the wheel well and can serve as a catch all for loose crap that I throw in the back of the truck and don't want rolling around. My 3-year old helper liked it and promptly filled it right up. It's secured with a bit of Velcro at the top and the paracord which has been there for truck eons.

I also put back my spare tire, reinstalled fridge, fire extinguisher and water sprayer.

    Finally getting back to normal.

Thanks for your support Jon, I really liked your posts in the thread. Maybe next year.

    :)

In January, I'm gonna post some Expo related stuff that should be fun.

I appreciate all your sharing as well. The guy that is coaching me (this is all he does for a living), says to remove all the spring leafs except for the one with the eyelets. Remove the bumps. Cycle the suspension and see where the shock travel really ends. Then from there think about real, dynamic compression will put the bump. The stock ones will be about 1/2" tall or less - sounds crazy but so it physics. :) It's a pain in the ass to test a setup but it is much better than coming home shockless on a long return trip. :) BTW any plans for DV or surrounding area this break? We will be out in that area 26th- 1st.

Did he say to put a block of wood in between the top leaf and Axle and bolt it down to simulate the rest of the leaf pack while you cycle?

I wish you lived in my hood, I would pass you a hockey puck with a hole in it just to try for your first real run. I bought 4 of them at Play It Again sports for about $6

    That's awesome!

    Indeed my friend!

I've heard of folks using the main spring for testing and measuring. When I think about it critically it makes sense.

The main spring in conjunction with the spring shackle should govern what is physically possible. Does he reattach the wheel in that configuration? My wheel and tire are 84 lbs each, and they will help stretch the leaf pack out.

Oh hell yes. Love the bed mat. Get one as fast as you can. I hear even Amazon has them now OEM too. :D

Yes! Anything is better than nothing. :)

Yes you attach the wheels to cycle. This will also point out clearance issues.

Yesterday I took the truck to the speed bump proving grounds. It's a 1.5 mile track of speed bumps. The bumps are the wide variety. I can take them at a max speed of 15 MPH and still keep the front tires on the ground. Any faster and the front shock will top out.

The good news is the extended length 5100 B110 work extremely well. They kept the tires on the ground every single time and out performed the front by a long shot. Big improvement over the OME.

I also found a little patch of earth to flex out on.

Great work. I'm going swap my OME out soon too. This is one of my favorite threads. Excellent info in here and thank you for taking the time to type it all up. Question, I have a pair of rear brake lines collecting dust. I just measured and they are only 2" longer than OEM. Do you think this will be an issue? If so ill just get +3 when I order fronts.

    Sounds good.

Out of curiosity, is the shock bottomed out in this pic?

    :D

That's very good. I was planning on a solo trip to DV, like last year, but it doesn't look good for me. Will PM you if things change.

    :D

You can find a speed bump proving grounds in your area at the following general locations:
    • Military / Government installations
    • Large State agency complexes
    • Large business complexes
I usually bail after the second lap, so I don't attract unwanted attention. :anonymous: And only do it when not busy, evenings, holidays, etc.

Thanks Willis! I think you will be fine with 2" extra length and your Dakar leaf pack. You have a nice 2014 build, I traced your build back in September. I still want to add some lights to the shell door like you did.

I used to take the truck to the Mall every weekend like clockwork because of my kids. I loved seeing other expo rigs there. lol I'd always try to look at their paint to see if they really wheel the truck.

And whenever possible, park like this.:rolleyes::D

    bf82058678164dab56f165d7639e2aad_efdc6c664acf5834acc4af03d0caf1a196a02774.jpg

No. But it's close. I think I will add a spacer. here is a closer view.

Yellow line yields .41" of downtravel left. Red line is shock destruction. :bananadead:
