Well the dealer is going to take care of it, not even a hassle, they had the TSB and ordered a new tailgate, whether it's the same or the re-enforced I don't know, did not ask, I'll ask when it is ready to be replaced. I must give a huge shout out to Dorschel Toyota of Rochester, they are the definition of professionalism, & true service. A special thanks to Mike Skrynski, asst. service mgr. there, what a great group guys. I could only wish that the company I work would treat our customers the way they do, we could sure learn something from them.

Yeah it was good news, but while waiting for this to all go down I did visit the other dealers in town, and I inspected the tailgates of other makes, and we here at Toyota are behind the eight ball, at least the Tacoma. The Tundra seems ok, and I know the Fords are ok, I drive an 2007 for work and beat the snot out of it on a daily basis, the Nissans are nice and strong, I do question the Chevy/GMC's they seem weak like ours, I did not check Dodge. We bought Toyota for what they were, the long history of "beat me up, and it will cost you nothing" the storied engine, 22r will go down in the books as one of the best. Most of us bought trucks because we use them in some sort of capacity, i.e. hauling gear for around the house, camping/motorsports, or equipment for the job we have. We buy trucks for the back end, the open bed and tailgate, that where the money is made, and the tasks get done. Nothing brings a smile to a truck owner faster than loading your truck to the hilt, squating the springs, jumping in and driving away. Having people look at us and our truck and think " yeah man- drive on. When I loaded the bike in the back and I heard the cracking and poping, I knew it had failed and I have to say that was very deflating. I can honestly say I would have felt better had I banged it up on the road, not much, but a little. I know Toyota is addressing this issue and will once again be setting the example for others to follow.
