So I recently got one of these for doing leather seats, headliners, and engine bays:

I'm a senior in High School and run a small little detailing business so I figured it'd be worth the investment. So far it's been pretty awesome, but I'm yet to do an engine bay. I need to do mine pretty badly though because it's quite filthy from wheeling.

Anyways, my question is, what all exactly do you guys cover up in the engine bay of your Tacoma when detailing? I know steam is a lot safer than spraying water everywhere but I still want to minimize risk.

    Thanks!

Cover all the electrical with plastic and take out the battery. Better safe than sorry! :D Please note I have yet to clean my engine bay yet, but have looked into and talked to friends who have done it, but it really needs it from all the mud.

I spray mine with a hose and use a rag to wipe it down. Sometimes ill throw a bucket of soapy water on it first.

I hit my engine bay like the rest of my truck. Although I do use a soft brush and Dawn dish washing liquid under the hood instead of normal car wash soap and a micro fiber wash mitt. The Dawn gets rid of any oily residue. Then I hose it out good but don't direct a forceful stream of water directly at any electrical components, although I do spray everything off and don't cover anything. This includes washing the underside of the hood. Then I spray the engine plastics with Aerospace protectant and it always looks brand new and clean under my hood. Never an issue doing this with any vehicle I've owned and all are bought new and kept for well over 100k.
