Issues: Bought a new radio/steering wheel adapter harness

So, wife bought me a Jensen VX-7020 head unit for the truck for Christmas. Also made sure to get the

$78 SWRTY-61J Radio Replacement Accessories

SWRTY-61J adapter to ensure we retained the steering wheel controls. However, for some reason this module only allows me to change the volume of the radio. When I use the "voice assist/bluetooth" button on my wheel it just dials the last number in my phone call history. The same goes for the "off hook" and "on hook" buttons. The up/down arrow on my wheel, normally used to change songs and channels, only allows me to change the station like I would be using the "tune" knob on the old radio (which is rather slow and annoying). The arrows do allow me to change songs when running an iPhone via bluetooth.

Ideas?

SWRTY-61J myself. The first one I installed (I've sent two back----on my third now) had issues with none of the control wheel buttons working. Rechecked all wiring and soldered connections and made sure I set and RESET again, all of the switches on the unit per the instructions. No success. Bought mine from Crutchfield and they were only too happy to replace with another unit. Second one I installed actually allowed all the switches on the LEFT side of the steering wheel to work, but nothing on the RIGHT. Again, checked connections/switches on the unit/wiring. Called crutch field again, and they sent a THIRD unit which is the one I'm on now. Everything works except the voice command switch, which I read somewhere in these forums, which is the way its supposed to be with this unit. I actually called Crux (the manufacturer) and they seemed to think it was an electronic board that connects the RCA plugs to the unit itself that may have gotten cracked or broken during handling or installation. Who knows? All I know from my experience and reading on TW is that there have been issues with these units and it's the luck of the draw if you get a good one or not. Yep, it's an @ss pain to tear out the radio and check/re-check everything. Maybe someone out there can recommend a better SWC unit that works correctly right off of the shelf. Good luck!!

 

even worse when you had a shop install it...at least I can see how they did it when I pull it out and reinstall a new one. took it in because the wiring was confusing the crap out of me, especially when some of the colors didn't match up (not an electrician lol)

 

hey, I'm not electrically inclined either, but between YouTube and these forums it can be easily installed with some patience and a beer or five......I'd rather do it myself than have some kid at an install shop just throw it in....it's not as daunting as it might look. Seriously, I'm a Marine and can only count to 21 with my pants down, and if I can do it........
