Trying to do a few mods for my bed rail system. Want to do the ammo can one and can find the right bolt that will fit in the rail system. I have read several of threads on and they said 1/2" carriage bolt and that did not fit at all. 3/8 did fit but pretty loose i dont known if a washer would help combat that. Looking for some insight cause i dont want to have buy everything and not be able to put it on. I dont want to buy the special t-bolts if i can. Homedepot is the most convient to me.

Let me here some or your import on what to get for anyone that has done this.

Is a hex bolt or carriage bolt or does it matter?

The square part of the bolt fits the bed rail perfect but large round part has to be ground down to fit

By either being pinched between the bolt head/knob/tie down/etc and the rail or by running the bolt/knob stud far enough through that it contacts the back side of the rail. I have several just rattling around loose inside my rails with no online right now. No big deal.

Edit - Sorry, misread your question. For not having serrations they seem to stay very tight. I haven't had anything shift yet but also haven't run into wall with an anvil secured back there. But I don't think there will ever be a problem.

I use these to hold my front fork mounts onto the rail. Once tightened down they have not moved at all. I just bought 5 more of them.
