I spray water right onto my URD from thw hose while it's running while I'm washing the car, bla bla bla and I have yet to run into run into any problems. Drive through car washes, hard rain, it doesn't mind it at all.

I agree though, stock intake unless you are supercharged.

The intake isn't for everyone for sure for obvious reasons. You have to cut into the radiator support a little bit.

And yes I run the shield, it helps but a little water will not hydrolock you.

    Stock with a clean filter.

Some older marquees and models respond well to easy E/H/I bolt ons. More modern, efficient from the factory models, not so much. And certainly not based on a decent $/HP proposition.

But don't feel bad. The misconception about this is just as prevalent as the 'can't change to synthetic oil after x miles' and 'I must change the oil every xk miles 'cause daddy did', and 'I need to use boutique oil brand ABC, 'cause someone said it's better than off the shelf stuff'.

Old wives tales just take on a new form every couple of decades.

    Stock.

I had the Afe pro dry stage 2. I ran it for 40,000 miles and transitioned back to stock.

Other than more noise at wide open throttle, I lost low end torque, but got some gains at the top end according to my but dyno.

The main reason why I transitioned back to stock was for the filtering capabilites of a stock paper filter. I noticed with the pro dry filter, my MAF and throttle body were much more filthy when I cleaned them compared to a stock paper filter.

The more you flow, the more that passes through. I would rather have a happy engine that lasts vs a bit of noise with a dirty engine.

.....sadly its his go to phrase and ive heard it about the mk2 exhaust. Until HE himself changed up the design to fit correctly and didnt tell anyone. Except me right as he cut me a check for my fab work over a year later.

Sounds about right. Definitely not the first time I've heard something negative about his products or his customer service.

The 2012+ Volant CAI is on par with the Afe stage II. That's what I run. I'm going to likely role back to stock when I get a snorkel.

    Everything else is as mentioned.

Yeah, if you look at the cost you'll put into an intake your reward will be nothing good in the long run.

Unless you want more noise stock for $300, then yes stay stock.

Yes. As others have said, aftermarket intakes on these Tacos just trade noise for dollars. But apparently a lighter wallet and higher noise level has a wierd placebo effect on some folks. They are absolutely positive the intakes make their trucks faster, lighter, and give 'em more flex. < shrug >

    Bone Stock.Why mess with perfection?Except...
OEM is already a cold air intake. Why pay good money for another CAI unless you are supercharged? If you want to, because of the sound, then I'd be the first to tell you to do it. I can't think of another truck that's as fun to drive and mod as a Tacoma. Tacoma is a very fun truck to have.
