Hey guys and gals. I changed my oil in my truck last night, and noticed my "chrome" grille is bubbling up. Will Toyota replace this? It's a 2013 with 60,000 miles, but this seems like a defect right from the start. Has anyone else had this problem? Not too impressed to see they cheaped out on this part of the truck..

It looks like your truck has never been washed from the picture you posted. I'm sure the northern snow/salt/weather makes it tough. With 60K miles I think you're SOL on warranty.

That sucks, have you thought about removing preping it and having a body shop paint match it to the to the rest of the truck? You can always see what the dealership says though about replacing it.

I wash it every week. Winter here is muddy and salty. One day of driving can make it look like that.

Chrome peeling off plastic is really common but it shouldn't happen on a two year old truck. I hate the stuff. Get one that is color matched for less than $200 US and never look back.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm surprised nobody else has had this issue.. I take really good care of her. I will try the dealership first, raise a fuss. Or yell at Toyota for making a cheap grille. If nothing works, guess its aftermarket I go.

Lucky you! Makes it super easy to sand off and paint match it!

Mine is a 2010 and was starting to peel too because of rock chip... I replaced it this spring for a black one until I color match it.

Do you wax? Not car wash wax, that's not wax, that's ripping you off. Paste wax. It's a necessity nowadays on every new car. Finishes have become so cheap.

What makes you say that? Paint jobs now compared to paint jobs 30 years ago have come light years. Red used to oxidize horribly. Now red cars last 15-20 years without problems.

Uv rays from sunlight kills clear coats On paint and plastic. You've seen the oxidized fuzzy headlights on cars..headlamps actually have a clear coat on them to protect the plastic lense. They fuzz when the clear coat starts going. Same as chromed plastic on a grill. Only way I know to prolong the life of these parts is to use paste wax on them. It works.

Way back when, the chrome grille on my 2000 went bad like that, the dealer said they would cover the part but wanted me to pay the labor to install it.

That does nothing to answer my question of why you thibk paint jobs today are worse than yesteryear.

Mine on my '05 is peeling but I want a color matched grille anyway so it's just motivation.

Probably caused by the ozone layer.
