I am in Monmouth County. Just e-mailed the service manager again. She was checking with Toyota about the hood on monday. Forwarded your dealer info and said that this has been done before.

Had my hood repaired at the dealers body shop over 3 weeks ago and it's still holding up well. They did remove all of the old adhesive then installed the new adhesive. Not sure how long it took them to do it but it's hard to imagine it's more than a couple hour job and that a new hood would be cheaper.

This doesn't seem to be true. I called a local dealer and asked if there was a bulletin on the hood issue yet, and they said no. So I called Toyota directly and asked, and they also said no.

Edit: the Toyota rep I spoke to did say that if Toyota got enough complaints, they would release an official service bulletin.

My limited hood seemed to have some vibration on the way to Sacramento yesterday. I will check when I get home. I'm at Boreal where it's 24 degrees. Left the taco home and drove the diesel excursion.

I think part of the issue is there is a big gap between "Toyota is aware of the issue" and a TSB. Since a lot of service dpts are lazy, they just look and see if there is a TSB and if there isn't one, tell you there have been no complaints/toyota unaware. The good service dpts. make a little effort to get through to corp.

I had this problem with my Subaru Forester on the oil consumption issue. The pulled my VIN at the dealer and said nope, no problems with that model. I had to send them a copy of the TSB from the interwebs that showed my model and year affected (badly). I'm not even sure they looked anything up.

Well, I'm looking at the repair invoice and it shows as follows:

A Customer states hood vibrates when driving at highway speeds
------------>103 Insulate under hood cover per service bulletin repair procedure

B Customer states that under hood adhesive is coming off-Advise
------------>103 Insulate under hood cover per service bulletin repair procedure

And to be clear, when I got the truck back, they had rebonded the hood to the cross bracing with similar adhesive/soft dampening foam type as OEM.

Blows my mind that there is conflicting information over a simple issue. It's almost as if Toyota, the dealers, or both just want to ignore it until it goes away.

I have a couple of spots where the glue has come apart. The hood vibration is not terribly noticeable. I'll keep an eye on it for now.

I fixed this problem along with a slew of other problems I had with mine. I sold it and have no regrets. I've owned 4 Tacomas over the years and this wasn't an easy decision. I still own a 2015 Highlander XLE and love it.

This is a comment to a friend, so it reads differently than if I wrote it for this forum.

I have a mile long list of problems with this truck. It's a new redesign and they certainly do not have the bugs worked out and I should have done further research.

I discovered this one almost immediately; after purchase. The Tacomas hood vibrates excessively when exceeding about 35MPH and bumpy roads. Some deToyota is replacing hoods to fix the problem. The bad thing is they do not paint them so it's aftermarket paint.

    CONS:
    1. Hood vibrates excessively when driving. The outer skin has separated from its under ribs. Adhesive failure.
    2. The new Tacoma has been neutered. IMO: Less power than the previous generation.
    3. The new six speed transmission is horrible and unpleasant to drive. At low speeds in high gear it lugs as if it needs to shift down but does not. Needless constant shifts with higher to middle gears.
    4. The best gas mileage I have gotten in the month of driving it in a mixture of Highway in city is 16.7 miles per gallon (manual numbers crunching). My gen 2 was better. Horrible for a midsize truck.
    5. although Toyota claims it's quieter than the previous gen, mine is much noisier inside.
    6. IMO: The cab of the new generation is smaller than the older generation. I have a half inch space between my head and the ceiling and in this one I have to sit with the seat completely back, unlike the previous gen and there is less legroom for the backseat than previous gen.
    7. A slew of other complaints all over the Internet; some mine has.

    PROS:
    1. They fixed the wheel wells to look symmetrical. Stupidest thing they did on the second generation Tacoma - 2005 to 2015.
    2. The third generation Tacoma 2016 model looks awesome, but looks aren't everything.

I was surprised...I only took a $3K hit on the trade in. But, I got $12,500 off MSRP for the F-150 XLT 3.5L v6.

I got 8 yrs, 100K ford factory warranty.
7yrs 100K total maintenance and service.
6 yrs dents and dings service.

The F150 is a pleasure to drive with tons of room and crazy Asti sounds, it get much better gas mileage than the Tacoma I had.

Best of luck to all of you all.

I agree with everything you said here except #2 and 4. The 3rd gen is super fast and has way more power than my 2nd gen, its just geared differently. Step on the gas and the things goes really quick! I get a constant 18-19 around town and 22-26 highway 4x4 trd off road with cover. Now to be fare that's babying and trying the get good gas millage. Still bad considering a full size truck gets the same if not better with 4000 more lbs on towing capacity.

Mine has the very super annoying shudder in high gears. Its "normal" and its because of "my" driving habits Toyota says lol. Give me a fing break. A 35k truck should drive smooth at any gears and speed regardless of driving habbits. Mine is so bad I'm embarrassed to let people ride in it. I find my self taking my wifes 07 Rx350 as much as possible so I dint have to hear her complain about it. I guess I'm left to wait until they come out with a fix and hope its not a large issue with the torque converter that will show up way after warranty is up and with the mods planned for the truck the dealer/Toyota can just blame it on the mods. Also any fix will likely affect the gas millage.

My hood is separated too. This is bullshit because almost every trd offroad or sr5 hood is like this, it's not just a few. There should be a proper fix for this asap. Not a bunch of bullshit fixes. Not what I expect out of a $35K mid size Toyota.

I really like the f150 and with what you get for the money they seem like a killer deal. The eco boost twin turbo motor is awesome! What was your package and what did you pay if you don't mind me asking?

Sorry for the rant, I'm a life long Toyota fan and owner, 92 pickup, 91 MR2 turbo (still own), 2000 Lexus RX300, 2007 Tacoma, 2007 Rx350 (still own) and now the 2016 Tacoma. I will give it some time and see how things play out. One good thing is I can sell it for what I got in it no problem!

Yeah, not sure if my Tacoma had a problem causing the gas issues but I crunched the numbers for each tank and never got better than 16.8 mpg for a mix of city and highway. City wasn't to congested either.

My F150 is the XLT with a few extras. Remote start, factory spray bedliner and upgraded audio system. MSRP was $45,700 and I got it for $12,500 off so $33,200.

My dealership has 8 Tacomas ranging from basic model to a Limited on the lot for weeks now. Not sure why they are no longer moving here. I believe I was the second to purchase one here and they have sold I beleive 4. I got my Limited for $500 under MSRP so they are not trying to over price them like others have reported.

Most of my adhesive looks good but it bumps up and down a little at high speeds right in the middle. Ughh

The really AMAZING about the hood glue issue is that my 1997 ToyotaT100 had the same issues....HTF can a company that claims quality design and construction even consider these sorts of quality control issues getting to the customer.....

There are assorted better or worse fixes but no owner of a Gen 3 should have to even think about this sort of thing.

No...not an issue at all. They are fixing it regardless. Between you and me, the issue with my hood is actually minimal. I am just making an issue of it with them because I paid north of $40k for this truck and it should be perfect.
