It's difficult for the cruise control to downshift when driving a standard. I've not had any issues with my cruise control but I have control over the gears.

Had ECU reflashed when headlights replaced for DRL melting (reflash for acceleration issue). Cruise Control improved 100% on my 6 speed. Handles hilly country much better.

So you guys are setting the cruise control and then you don't have to push the throttle pedal with your foot? Seems like it's working just fine to me, the fact that it slows down going up hills and speeds up going down is physics fault not Toyotas. Cruise control not gravity control.

Cruise control on every Toyota I've owned has always been a let down. Feels like it's lazy, waiting for a large difference in set and actual MPH before playing catch up. Once it drops a gear and races past the desired speed, it slowly creeps back and starts over again.

    Hardly ever use it.

A decent cruise control maintains a set speed, including increasing throttle for uphill and less throttle for downhill. To some degree, it is gravity control, or at least a reaction to it.

I don't know why you guys are so concerned over 3-4 mph fluctuation. Between the drive shaft vibrations, needle bearing vibrations, and all the noises from seizing lca bushings and rotting frames I'm suprized it's even noticable. But I don't have any of those issues, hell I don't even have cruise control so I guess it doesn't matter

Mine is never off more than 2 MPH up or down hill ( 6 speed manual) it's not the cruse control it's the automatic. Try a new Chevy or Ford truck automatic they do the same thing you are talking about.

I'll hit a hill, and it drops way down, then it goes, "holy shit, I have to catch up!!!".

Then it goes way past what it was set at.

I've learned to compensate for it over the last four Toyota trucks.

On the other hand, my Audi holds its speed exactly as set no matter what.

I usually just turn my CC off if i come to a large enough hill, I really don't like using CC too much though.

My '04 Highlander works great. Even in NC mountains.

My '96 Miata and several Hondas were perfect.

My '13 4 banger Tacoma is a bit more cantankerous.

My 4Runner and three previous 2nd gen Taco's were all equally shitty in terms of CC.

Can't remember if my '98 Taco even had CC.
