My 2002 Tacoma DCB 4x4 (80k miles) started making a hell of a noise from the power steering. I have not been driving it much and I guess that's all it took because it was silent a few weeks ago. I did some searching and found many had the screen plugging up. I used a handheld vacuum pump to suck the crap out of the resevior and then used a carpenters pencil (flat type pencil) to clean the screen. Took about 25 minutes but no more whine. I know many remove the pump but I didn't want to go that route first.
