Just for giggles does anyone see the functional error in the "Circuit Description" text shown in post #15? The same paragraph and error is in the 3RZ section.

You mean the reference to 'Tr' rather than 'FC' ?

I always just attribute errors like that to be from Japanese to english language translation errors but its hard to say that's always the case

Not what I was talking about but good eye nonetheless. To me that is just a misprint. "FC" is a designation for a terminal on the ECM while "Tr" refers to the transistor in the ECM that does the actual grounding of the COR coil. Some years in that diagram they label the transistor Tr and some years they leave it blank like the version in post #15. It's the schematic symbol to the right of terminal FC, looks like a circle with a backwards K inside. I never noticed the lack of label until you brought it up.

Anyhow, I was talking about an error about actual function or maybe a better term would be "theory of operation". It involves "STA" and some field experience with a manual trans Taco.

would the fuel pressure in my fuel filter always equal the fuel pressure in the fuel rails?

Im reporting you for trying to start an argument over the molecular mass of fuel and substrate density of varying fuel filter mediums. :D

It can lower pressure, it would not have a major effect unless your filter is very bad. The filter is a restriction, though not as much as a restriction as the FPR. It will lower volume, pressure drop should be negligible due to the FPR maintaining that pressure at the rail.

I still think you should check the IAC with the numbers i posted. It may not be opening or closing fully.

my current filter is new. im not worried about it dropping my fuel pressure at all.

what i am curious about is if I can make a custom fitting that replaces the fuel filter and provides a port to test fuel pressure.

Yea, absolutely. Like some sort of T fitting with a shrader valve would be ideal.

EDIT: I see what youre doing, you want to check for leakdown on the FPR and/or pump?

1 thing i was thinking was to get the cheapest fuel filter i can find and cut it open to either put a shrader valve on it or re-use the fittings at the ends and make something in between.

all I need are a couple of 14x1.5 female seats going to whatever other thread.

Well from the pics im looking at, the filter on the 5vz is under the cab, connected via hard lines with flared fittings. So im thinking three options.

    1. Your idea aint bad, of screwing a fitting into a new filter. I just dont see that as being somethign you would drive around with installed, and its a lot of work to take that deal on and off.

    2. Easier, but find a spot where there is a soft line, and either cut it, or add a longer section to it to get a tee fitting with a schrader or other sealable port. Youll have to position it in a sport it is easy to get to. Maybe using something like this:

    Here is a schrader union:

    More schrader fittings:
    http://tools.ntxtools.com/schrader-adapters

    3. Do the same thing, but to the hard line ahead of the filter. You might be able to cut the line, remove a section, flare it, and install a similar tee, but one that is meant for steel or brass line.

If your sole purpose is to diagnose fuel pressure issues you will want to use a diagnostic set up with valves that allow for blocking and isolating the pump side vs injector side.
If you just want to watch pressure and possibly isolate the FPR by pinching the return line the non invasive factory type adapter for the fuel rail can be had here.
    http://www.autozone.com/fittings-an...110-and-641120/773861/?CJPID=2206300&cmpid=cj
Or you could get creative and drill/tap a fuel rail union fitting for 1/8" NPT, ending up with more or less the same thing as above.
Most of the "fuel mod" folks just cut in a tee at the rubber portion of the supply line between the driver side fender well and the engine. Quick and maybe dirty.

Right, I like the layout of it though.
