Hi, ive got a 99 tacoma V6 and ive been having issues with what i think could be the trans. ive noticed recently that when changing gears from 2nd to 3rd it takes a little longer and revs around 2k rmps for a while before changing gears. ive read on forums that it could possibly be that my throttle position sensor needs adjustment or that the shift solenoid needs replacing. So basically im asking if anyone has had similar issues and/or possible solutions. thanks in advance :blahblah:

That simply sounds like a band slipping. Whether it is worn, or whether you have low fluid pressure or dirty fluid is hard to guess. Have you changed the transmission fluid? I don't think TPS has anything whatsoever to do with this. It takes reasonable pressure to clamp the band to lock that specific ring gear, and it takes a reasonable band with enough friction material left to be able to actually stop the ring gear. There are lots of potential causes, from a leaking valve body / piston, weak pump, etc... I'd at least peek at the fluid for starters.

Had a similar problem a month or 2 ago. But in my case, a proper flushing fixed it. My mechanic has a special machine that replaces 100% of the old fluid. The process uses about twice the capacity of the tranny, in new fluid. EXPENSIVE.

I was really hoping that changing the ATF would do it but doesnt seem likely
