I've never had a truck and have been looking at Tacoma's since my wife and I were in a serious motorcycle accident in September of 2015. Long story short, no more motorcycles and cages only for us. But now I have to have something to upgrade and play with. So my wonderful wife bought an '09 Tacoma TRD for Christmas. In the last week I've added Cold Air Intake and replaced the head and fog lights over to 4000k PIAA's.

    So what's next?

    20150905_165556.jpg Because of this,20151231_122123.jpg I got this.

We bought the bike in September of 2012. In October of 2012 it went into the shop to start the upgrades. Only 8k for that set. In September on our way home from a 10 tour we were hit by an uninsured 19 pot head. I was in the hospital 6 hours before being transfer to the trauma unit my wife was at. 2 weeks in Chico, medical flight back to Oregon where she was for another 2 weeks then a month in a skilled nursing facility. And the little SOB that hit us got a slap on the hand. Onward & Upward. Cages for us & playing in the National Forests of Oregon & Washington.

On a side note I'm looking for the best oil. AmsOil is what we used in the bikes or Royal Purple is an option. Any other suggestions.

That's unfortunate to hear. As more states start legalizing that, someone really needs to talk about it more or things like that will continue to happen.

I run Mobil1 Synthetic 0w-30. 5 quart jug is less than $30, so I think it's a good value for a name brand full synthetic oil. Your truck will take about 5.5 quarts.

Damn man that sucks and you hear too much of that shit (texas teen for example) going on...

I've always just used whatever the book calls for in oil with regular changes... I put on some miles (40,000+ a year) and have never had an issue.

Great looking truck BTW. Wifey did good!

Wife is doing ok. Has both legs at this point but we are alive and together. Sucks we won't be riding any more but it could be worse.

I had a Harley Heritage Softail. Had a woman talking on her cell phone make a left turn directly in front of me. As I was told later, the only reason I still have a left leg is because I had the front and rear crash bars on the bike. Without them, her grille and bumper on the Minivan would have crushed my leg into the engine of the Harley. But because of the bars, I went over her hood, and barrel rolled about 3 times on the asphalt. I got lucky, no broken anything, just some muscle strains and bruises. Had to get a new frame for the Harley so it could be rebuilt.

I drive truck and there are to many people not paying attention. I ride 4x4 atvs on my off time, more safe and by yourself. No trails around me to use the truck, probably wouldn't take it off-road anyways. Good luck to you and your wife on your new adventure.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I just ordered some Amsoil XL 5w30 for my Tacoma, haven't ever tried it before but I run it in my ATV with no complaints. Any of the name brand synthetics will work well in these trucks. Amsoil is probably overkill for any street legal, stock engine but it works well from what I've researched. I am currently running Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 and have loved it so far, ran it for 2 changes with no complaints. If the Amsoil doesn't live up to the hype, I will just stick with my Platinum from here on. I used to run Mobil 1 exclusively, but my truck burned through half a quart of M1 every 3000 miles so I tried the Pennzoil and it doesn't use a drop at all now in 7500 mile intervals.
