I got a lot of updating to do on this thread.

New 12" Kings with BAMF towers.
Some new wiring and custom wired switches by yours truly.
Custom aluminum box for air compressor and bed power. (building now)

    And this for my OCD.

It's a torque adapter for my breaker bar in case I ever need to change out a spare or check torque on my wheels.

Here's how she looked for a week while I painted and welded the back of the towers and reservoir mounts.

Just wondering about weight. i ran 265/70/17 load range E on stock rims and the front end could definitely use more dampening. What would be the wight on these 315s? 35s?

Maybe I missed it somewhere but still the same issue, those big tires are much harder to dampen than the old Hilux trucks. Cant just add a nice steering shock or 2.

Do you mean movement in the steering rack or suspension wise?

Just road impact (energy) between the tires and the road transmitted to the steering wheel.

I don't think they are harder to dampen.. Seems like a wider tire would be easier to dampen, less weight per square inch on each tire, versus a skinnier smaller tire. :notsure:

Those are 35's from my friends Land Cruiser. The wheels are definitely heavy, I didn't go with the Toyos in the pic because they weigh almost 75 lbs for just the tire.

After rehearing to 4.56's the truck feels stock. My steering was a little stiff after I installed the Dirt King LCA's, but not from the tires.

As far as damping the road, the duratracs im running have flexible walls, so at first it felt like the truck had a floating effect. Running stock tire pressure the truck rides nice and runs over mos things just fine. Speed bumps are my favorite the truck rolls right over them.

The biggest thing is moving them around, with the method rims and duratracs the wheels weigh about 85lbs total.

Im starting to think I need a set of 20 inch wheels before going the 33 inch tall tire route, to save some weight. I havent done the research yet but my current load range E at 55 lbs plus 30.5 for the stock rim needs to be revisited. I have a 75 FJ40 in the back pasture that could easily handle that much meat though.

 Definltey don't want 20" wheels. Are you saving weight for MPG's? Load carrying capacity?

well I never had a set to now for sure but just think 80 lbs per front corner may be a bit tough on the front end or..... maybe not. Back end, no problem.
Oh and i am happy with E tires under my box for loads.

People run 35's on 15" wheels (first gens) without a problem, 2nd gens can run 35's on 16" wheels without a problem. The larger the wheel the less you can air down off road..

From what the guys at ECGS stated, the front end is plenty strong for 35s. If you run tires bigger than that you may run into problems.

After regearing the truck feels stock except the ride is much better.

Also if you want more rim, go with a 17" rim.

I finally got around to doing my cab mounts. After running 3.5" of backspace I needed to cut more than I had before, so I couldn't use the plates I bought and I made my own.

    image.jpg

Ignore my paint. The can I bought literally hosed the paid on. I still need to sand and respray with a can that has a tame nozzle.

I think this is as much as I could cut and plate without relocating the cab mount, and still being able to remove the bushings.
