Hey, I never came to Anchorage. I wanted to avoid Christmas weekend there. Infact, I spent more time in Coldfoot and then in Denali. I'm posting up Denali pictures next.

I had the tire question come up on multiple occasions: Here is a quick summary.
    A) Second Spare: I did not carry a second spare. I do not think it is necessary for these rigs. The OEM tires are aggressive and truck is light. Perhaps, a car? you might need it then.
    B) Snow tires(or Studded tires): If you are investing in new snow tires you may as well consider studded tires (that is all new 4 tires). NOTE: Tire shops only stud new tires and not old ones.
    C) I have older tires what option do I have? You can increase grip on snow to some extent by siping the tires. Keep in mind this is also done on brand new tire but some tire shops will charge extra to work on older tires (in Faribanks it was $28 a tire).
I did not have A, B or C for this travel. I just had factory BF good rich.

@vijay Looks like it was a fun roadie. Its a certain kind of person who prefers a greasy burger at Rose's Cafe in bumphuk Alaska to margueritas on a beach. Good for you for going for it. I prefer my winter roadies to end at a nice distant ski hill.

Do you have any more pics of the fia grill screen on the truck or any with the winter attachment? I assume you got the winter screen as well as the bug screen seen in your pictures. I'm kinda thinking about picking one of those up but I can't decide if I like the look of them enough.

A question I've wondered since I first started reading your adventure, when it's that freaking cold outside, how high do you have to run the heat in the truck just to maintain t a comfortable inside temp?

    Just curious

In my "Dirty ol Dodge" I had to run it at the highest setting to counteract the wind tunnel effect due to leaking door seals.

The coldest temp I remember seeing was -15 in the Alleghenies of Northern PA.

It depends, I had it at full high temp with fan speed at the second-lowest setting. Defrost on the widow(driver side) will not work effectively. There will be a nice sheet of ice on driver side window(inside) at all times. So, having finger nails helps to scratch it off. Since I returned from the trip, I have been thinking of a hand held defrost This may have helped me...

I've had to use an icescraper inside a rental car on a drive from PG to Mackenzie BC in -36C. The front windshield was frosted up like an oval, clear in the middle, but frosted up in the corners. Lowering a window down slightly to release the humidity in the air can help.

Yup, I only had the big scrapper in the bed. For the most part, it was not bad. Finger nails work pretty good ;)
