I have a roaring sound from the front driver side. Louder when driving on the freeway. I think it's the wheel bearing that went out. When I lift the wheel and spin it, I can hear a metal grinding sound. Passenger side is smooth. Any other suggestions about making sure it's that before I order parts.

    Thanks

I've seen this several times on the forum with the front wheel bearings going out. I know they are not lifetime parts, but I'm curious if anyone can give a guesstimated average life span of the wheel bearings, on an unmodified rig driven by average Joe. Maybe 150k miles? Not sure if the OP's TRD sport has sealed bearings, not sure if any models of the 2nd gen have serviceable wheel bearings.

On an unmodified truck used on paved roads, probably 150k. I had an 07 that was unmodified with the exception of 10-ply tires, but was used almost 100% on gravel roads. The bearings needed replacement three times in 200k.

Mines at 115,000 mi. Just a 2" leveling kit. Going to be only the second repair. So I can't complain. The other was replacing the leaf springs.
