    After reading through these threads. I notice no one mentioned about dry start ups, after changing the motor oil. Not only having a dry oil filter, but the empty void between the filter all the oil passageways down to the pump. The pump is bone dry, so it has to prime then force the oil up to the dry filter and on through the rest of the engine. So for a few extra seconds all the moving parts are rubbing together without any oil circulating around them. You're defeating your purpose of thinking you're prolonging the life of the motor. Not to mention the possibility of stripping the oil pan threads.

    Hello folks..... Going to throw in my 3 cents.

    I have;

    2011 Tacoma Crew Cab, 6ft bed 4x4 with 60k on it, bought it brand new. Never been to the dealer for their free oil changes(actually only time it has been to the dealer is when I drove it off the lot. Generally us Toyota filters sometime PUR1 & only Mobil1 oil. Oil samples at Blackstone every other oil change.

    1991 SR5 extended cab 4x4 with 365k on it, I am the 2nd owner from 89k. Since I bought it only used Castrol Synthetic in it & only because Mobil did not make a 10/40 synthetic at the time. Never been to a dealer. Maintenance items, brakes & a radiator all I have ever done to it. Tranny is starting to slip but I'm fine with that for now.

    2-2004 Camry's bought new a week apart. Daily drivers. 1 has 260k on it the other 230k. Again have not been to a dealer since they were driven off the lot. Except for maintenance items, brakes, tires etc. Use either PUR1 or Toyota filters & only Mobil1.

    I do all of my own maintenance & love referring to tacomaworld for insight. I think I have gotten my money's worth from Toyota & Mobil1. Converted many folks to both Toyota & Mobil1. lol

    P.S. 2006 F250 Diesel with 76k(bought new), in the shop more than it is out. But it is a nice truck when it runs.... lol

    Thanks everyone & Happy New Year !!!!!

    I used to, with my '94 ranger, change the filter and replace the missing oil to it off with Mobil one every 3k, and change the oil with every third filter. Now I get a 5qt jug from Wally world for under 30 bucks and do a complete change every 3-5k. Full synthetic oil change for under 35 with a yzzd3 filter... Well worth it to me.

    Who cares! If it's not your truck why does it matter if they fill the motor with horse shit and sawdust and change it every 15 minutes. There's more important things to worry about!

    Horse piss is a lot easier to get into the fill opening...and I think it can go 30 minutes between changes.

    Changing your oil every 3,000 miles is a waste of your money and a waste of petroleum product. A lot of dinosaurs and plant life died for that.
