Looking for either a 110v or 12v portable air compressor

You can get the above compressor from Harbor Freight for $39 with a coupon. It works in my bed plug in.

 

The little pancake compressors draw about 300 watts running and over 800 starting it likely will smoke the inverter in short order you would be far better off with a 12 volt one.

I have been using it for 1 year on several camping trips. I use it for my firestone bags. Have used it with my nailer. No problems. By using the word likely, it shows me you have no experience using it.

 

I have a 4 amp compressor like that, and it works fine in the bed plug, but it does draw more than 5 amps on start up, which is bad for the electrical shit In your truck. I strayed away from using it on the chance that I'd be out on the trail and I'd blow a lot of fuses while using it. It has happened plenty of times to people on here.

 

Which fuse is it that blows. What else is tied in with the fuse that blows. Does anybody know?

 

I bought the biggest viair pump I could find on Amazon along with some deflators. Works great

 

Extra battery behind rear passenger-side seat, 12v outlets and inverter behind rear driver-side seat.
Compressor lives under rear driver-side seat. Just pull it out and plug it into 110v from inverter, and run air hose to whatever.
For the number of times I use it, I don't see the need for a built-in. From comparing with friends' 12v units, it seems a 110v unit works a little better, plus don't have to screw around with battery clips.
To each his own ...

 

Quite right I don't but I am a retired electronics engineer the pancakes draw 312 watts average running wattage a normal motor draws a bit over 200% of running current just to start add head pressure of a compressor your looking at close to 800 watts or twice the capacity of the inverter granted the inverter may have an inrush of 600 watts momentary current capacity but no matter what it is more that the little inverter should be asked to do it is marginal at best. Yes you could buy a bigger inverter but you can also buy a 12 volt compressor a skip the added expense.

I stow my Viair 450C behind my driver seat. Happy with its performance. Use as per the operation manual. Also keep a full set of deflators with it.

 

I prefer the Smittybilt 2780 2.54 CFM. It can be used portable or made into an On Board Air system pretty easily. I have it as an OBA system.

I have a little 12V Husky compressor from Home Depot in each vehicle. Great to have in the trunk or behind the seat, and I've let two co-workers borrow them when they had flats or slow leaks. They have a little flashlight on the front as well which can be handy. Not real heavy duty, so not ideal choice for pumping a tire from a dead flat.

 

I keep a ViAir 85P in the rear seat storage compartment. It's ViAir's largest model that runs from the cigarette lighter:

viair 88p if you want to go this route

 

Viair 450p here.. Buy once cry once. I ran a arb for a few years in my cj5 that thing was total crap, ran so hot that it was scary.

Viair 88P you won't need the battery clip adapter. I was going to go the route you suggested because I was worried about blowing fuses with the 85P plugged into the outlet in the truck. I then went to Viair web site and watched video's on Youtube. I bought the 88P as it has the long hose to reach the back tires without buying an extension hose and no need for the battery clip adapter. Get the tool bag I posted a Ebay link for and everything fits nicely in it for neat storage.
