Anybody compare the noise level to duratracs or Goodyear authorities? I have 265 70 17 authorities and they are painfully loud for my 85 mile round trip commute. I was thinking about these in 285 70 17.

I had authorities on my taco, and have ko2 on my FJ. Authorities got loud as they wore, but they have a relatively open tread pattern so that's to be expected. KO2 aren't loud, but aren't quiet like the highway tires that came on my FJ. I know they are there is the best way to describe it. I'd imagine they will get louder as they wear too. It can't really be helped.

They aren't obnoxious if that's what you're asking, but if you want quiet look at a less aggressive tire.

yea...I know they will not be highway tires, but I can't stand my authorities. I can stand noise because it is a truck, but these authorities have gotten ridiculous. They started off loud and just got worse.

Sounds to me like you should really think about the Michelin A/T2. They are supposed to be the best AT tire for noise, mileage and how smooth they ride. Seems like a good match for you with the mileage you do

Can't argue with that, but I use 4x4 to much. I really need the best of both worlds, but that isn't really possible.

I think you can get C's in 17" (and E) only, 16" E only. less sidewall on a 17, may be why?

Yeah. No dice on 18's in C Load. I went with Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs instead. So far I really like them. Funny enough, a work buddy just got KO2's the same day!

Can't say enough about these tires. I have them in 265/70/17 on a 2016 with Toytec lift. Still get 20 mpg, quiet on the road and finally took them off road yesterday. Went snow wheeling and never got stuck, although there were a few close calls.

I am waiting for C's to put them on my truck. No need for E's and I won't add the extra weight.

Michelin at/2 or cooper at3 would work just fine for your intended use.

For what it's worth I have like 5,000 miles on mine and I'm kind of regretting it. They're great, but... they're heavy and they make the truck feel like a dog. I have a 2004 Jeep TJ with the 4.0 and between the two vehicles that actually feels quicker and more responsive just because it's running some P-rated lightweight 265/75/16 tires. I'm starting to use the truck more for commuting so I think I might put my Rugged Fails back on and kill those, then swap the tires with the ones on the jeep and give the jeep the good looking KO2s. Commuting 300-700 miles a week is just killing me on these tires.

This is exactly what I am afraid of. I am leaning towards Michelin AT2's or even BFG Rugged Terrains {not Rugged Trails} next. The new KO2's got their cool looking sidewall from the Terrains, and they have great reviews, also way lighter for Tacoma's. I think so many around here confuse the Rugged Trails with the Rugged Terrains that is turns people away from a great tire.

Is your issue with the weight mainly or is it road noise or both? If I get any LT285 tire they are going to be in the mid to upper 50 weight range, so I'm not sure if the weight is a driving factor for me. It may be once I get them on though...

Weight, I actually think they're fairly quiet and comfortable and they drive nice. They'd be perfect if I didn't get a new job in December that requires a lot of travel (reimbursed).

Part of the weight problem is the pedal feel, the other part is the fuel economy. I have weight in the truck bed (because it's winter and I'm in Michigan), so that doesn't help either. Between 480lbs of salt, these tires and the winter fuel mix I'm getting about 14mpg on the highway. Yeah the weight in the back is a contributing factor, but even without it I can feel the difference in power.

I'm going to continue to run these like this through the winter. But as soon as I don't need the better tires I'm putting my 40k mile-worn rugged fails back on just to kill them in the summer with all this driving.

Part of me is just bitter about putting a ton of miles on these KO2s because I just got them... At this rate they'd hardly last 2 years, whereas the 2004 TJ Rubicon can use them for years to come until I lift it)

Dang...I'm getting a little depressed. What size do you run? I think I'm going to have to just suck it up since I want what I want. Thanks for the input.

265/75/16, load range e of course.

I wheeled with them a bit and they're great offroad, on road performance isn't bad and there's a little noise. I'm just bummed out about how this truck performs in its current setup... As I mentioned, some of it is self inflicted with the weight in the bed.

My reasoning though is that 480 lbs in the bed is no different than 2 of my "big" friends from work at 250lbs each... I shouldn't have to shift down a gear just to make it up hills at 70 with the truck.

I'd really love a load range C with these tires, 53lbs or 55lbs or whatever it is per tire is just a huge hit compared to the 35lbs per tire that the rugged fails are.
