Exactly what they did for me. Installed a new sensor and had trouble getting it to load right. Told the computer to call my truck a 2015 Camry, now everything works fine.

Gosh I hate to dig up an old thread but I'm also looking at getting a second set of wheels and tires for the new taco. My plan was to keep my oems as winters and get some older TRD pros for the rest of the year. Reading this post made me think of a couple questions, and I think you're the only man that's gonna have the answer.

    1. Am I to understand that the Tacoma is not able to support a second set of wheels? So, if I get a second set of wheels with compatible TPMS installed, and get the Tacoma programmed to recognize the new TPMS sensors, will the first set of TPMS sensors no longer be compatible? I hope I've misinterpreted your post, because it seems silly that a computer would only support a maximum of 4 registered TPMS sensors, right? Having to go to a dealer every time I want to change wheels seems a bit... stupid.

    2. What happens when you drive the truck without the TPMS set up? Sure it'll drive alright, but do you get any annoying and persistent chimes? Just a warning light? If it's just a warning light or even maybe a quick chime at start up, I could tolerate that for a month or two out of the year. I'd probably only put the snow tires on when the forecast calls for heavy snow and then take them off as soon as the bad weather passes.

Edited: I initially typed 8 sensors when I meant to type 4.

    Answers:

    1. That is correct. You can only register four sensors in the vehicle a time. They need to be Toyota PMV-C015 sensors.
    2. You will not have sensor readings and I believe the warning light will come on after 20 minutes or 20 miles if I recall.

I lucked out and found a set of four takeoff sensors for $27 shipped. Most will cost you around $60-100 for a full set, but that's worth it. I use America's Tire and they can reprogram in about 5-10 minutes. They've never charged me for this.

Dang. That stinks. You would think they would at least support 8 for the standard winter/summer tire setup. Or at least for a highway/offroad setup. Sheesh.

Well if all you get is a light, I'm fine with that. I just didn't want it to be chiming while I was driving or something.

The guys in the Tundra forums are saying that their TPMS sensors mess with traction control. I didn't want to hear that.

In case anybody's curious, the solution they developed to TPMS woes is to cram the sensors into a piece of pvc, pressurize the pipe to 35psi, then toss the pipe under the seat. I thought that was genius.

*edit* No I don't own a Tundra or anything. My buddy owns one I was discussing this thread with him when he brought it up. Thought maybe you guys would think that was pretty neat.

I have set of four TPMS (PMV-C015) for sale, which I had purchased for my wheels project. However I managed to move the original TPMS to my new wheels. The TPMS are used and are tested. Purchase on EBay form MVP-Wheel. Sensors with valve stem.

    Toyota OEM TPMS PMV-CO15

$75.00 shipping included, US lower 48 states.

So for those of us planning to run a 5 tire rotation we are shit out of luck? Have to get them reprogrammed every rotation?

Trying to avoid going to the stealership as much as possible. Wish it could be reprogrammed through an in-truck sequence like a lot of other vehicles.

Now I'm thinking of just doing the pressurized pipe trick and be done with it.

I'm swapping the sensors from my stock wheels to the aftermarket ones this Saturday - and putting rubber valves in the original wheel/tire combos. I figured you probably have to register new sensors and I just want to save my stock wheels for when I give my truck back. It's just easier to handle inflated wheels than flat ones. Thanks for the info though!

From what I heard from three different tire shops now that I've been pricing out my tires from, all said just get OEM as they've had a few tacomas in with aftermarket sensors and none worked. The OEM ones aren't much more than the aftermarket and at least you know they'll definitely work, as long as said shop doesn't damage them.
