Hey guys, I'm looking at buying a 2007 Tacoma, but need some advice. It's got a rebuilt engine from a company called Japan (or Japanese) Engines out of California, but I can't find any feedback online about the place. 85k on the body and around 15k on the "new" motor I've got him down to 17k. Would you do it or not and why?

Does the engine come with a warranty? Rebuilt engines are hit or miss.

I wouldn't do it. If the engine needed rebuilding that soon,I would be concerned about the rest of the truck too.

hah this was my initial response also but figured I'd check. Other than that part it's a good deal, double cab trd off road everything I'm looking for. I spoke to the shop that put the rebuilt motor in and he said the first one failed due to an oil filter.

I'd get something with more miles but at least know it has the original motor and not rebult.
I wouldn't want you to get funny surprises down the road.
Ask him to guarantee that motor for some miles and see what he says.

Because of that part it's a bad deal.

Hard to say without knowing the trim and engine size. But for 17K, I think it may be possible to find other well maintained vehicles.
