I'll take photos of the full set up when I can coral the horses and load again during daylight. The honeydo list is getting in the way of me playing tonight. Thanks for posting, I'm definately interested to get feedback from others, especially once I get the photos uploaded.

I did the same thing with a P3. I took out the panel and made a slot in the back of the cubby hold with a Dremel. Fed the 3017-P through the hole, snapped the panel back, plugged in the P3 and pushed it in. It's a pretty tight fit but should stay put without any velcro, screws or glue.

Does that panel just pop out?

Yes. I just used a small blade screwdriver to pry behind it from the door side and it popped out without any problem.

OK, I won't charge extra for this but I just took another couple of pics to illustrate.

    Thanks again.

Does the 3017-P really work? Has it been tested pulling a trailer? I am getting so many different answers about this.. Thanks for your response!

That is my setup. You have to get the Tundra 2015 harness adapter. Plug n play.

Yes, it is a 2015 Tundra harness but does fit and work. I towed my travel trailer this past weekend. All lights worked correctly as well as the trailers brakes.

So my brake controller harness arrived in today, so I popped open the trim to get to the connection. So for those new to it, pop the trim off along the base of the door (because the one you need to remove is tucked under it). I used a one inch scraper slipped under the trim and lever up to pop without damage. Next, by the brake pedal there is one little black screw stud to unscrew, then there are two pop studs behind the trim that pop off in the direction by prying towards the center console. Once you have the trim off, get a light and look down and behind the large collection of twisted wires. The brake controller plug is that disconnected white one (without a cover) that can barely be seen. It's a straight forward plug n play with the tekonsha 3017-P harness ($20).

I popped the cubby off to the left of the steering wheel using two screwdrivers to lever the plastic. I then disconnected the two switches, took the cubby into the workshop and drilled a hole where I needed the harness to come through. I enlarged the hole with a jigsaw until it was large enough (for tidyness, you can run seperate drill holes for the corners of the hole, then connect the holes with the jigsaw).

Run the harness up from the connection behind the dash, and out the cubby hole, connect the brake controller then re-connect the two switches and pop the cubby back in. install the trim at the bottom again and you're complete. I showed a photo of my brake controller location on a previous post, so won't bother with that again, but thought photos of the connection might help others.

SO I just went out to my truck and tried fitting my P3 into that area. Doesn't seem to fit. Do you have to force it in there?

It's a tight fit, but it will slide in without breaking any of the plastic on the dash slot. I like it tight so it will not slide out unexpectedly or move around if driving on a bumpy road. The case of the P3 is metal so you will not harm it either. I have pushed it in and pulled it out multiple times without any damage.

Will not work in the Tacoma. The controller is on the CAN network and display is in the multi display.

What I was thinking on doing was flush mounting my P3 and putting a dial switch in the panel for manual brake control. Only problem is I couldn't take the controller out to use in my fathers Tacoma if needed.

Using the left cubby work for me as well.

Can you take a couple pictures of how you mounted it? I'd love to not have it hooked up all the time and hit my legs on it. I also like the look of a nice clean dash without having the controller there all the time.
