I have a 09 with the push button to lock the rear-end and make it posi. I have tried a few times to get it to engage and the light keeps blinking on the dash, I also read this is only available in 4wd low? I have tried to go back n forth slowly to get it no go. any inputs or ideas on how to get this to lock?

Posi trac is limited slip. The OR diff locker is a full lockup. You can only engage it in 4wd Low. Mine has always required me to roll a bit before it will lock.

It's bipolar. Put truck in neutral, turn wheel left and right, put in drive, turn wheel left and right, put in reverse, turn wheel left and right. Eventually it will engage if you are in 4L.

the only time the rear locker will go in (in stock form) is in 4 Low. Get all the way into 4 LOW. Stop, press the rear diff button, then slowly start rolling forward in an arch, you will hear it click and at that point the dash light should be solid.

I turn the wheel back and forth while driving very slowly ahead in 4LO. That has the effect of getting the rear tires to turn at slightly different speeds and allows the gears to move into alignment. If you're stuck and one tire is spinning you won't need to be moving forward because that will have the same effect of the wheels turning at different speeds.

I may be wayyyy off but that works for me and that's how I make sense of it.

Its posible you may never get it to lock. If it hasn't been used in a long enough time the actuator may be frozen.

Try 4 Lo and then hit the button and drive very slowly with the steering wheel turned sharply left. I bet it will lock.

Yeah. Give the wheel a half turn to the left or right and drive ahead at idle speed. It will lock within 15 feet if the actuator isn't frozen.

So I apologize profusely, because I'm sure this question has been asked before, but why is it that a 4wd needs to be in 4lo to use the rear locker, but a PreRunner can come in a TRD OR and lock?

That's the way Toyota engineered it. They only want you to use the locker as a last resort. The pre runner is 2wd so there is no 4x4 to try first, hence the locker is a last resort for the pre runner.

I once read on here that if you're just testing the locker, once you find that sweet spot where it locks in, stop the vehicle and engage/disengage the locker a few times fully. That will lube up the moving parts and the actuators related to the e-locker to keep it from seizing up from lack of use over time.

Someone correct me if this info is wrong.

You should have completed this step on loose soil...Turning sharply on dry hard pavement while in 4 wheel drive can cause damage to the drivetrain.
