    Hey guys, quick question:
I heard a rumor that you're not supposed to drive a 2016 Taco faster than 60mph in 4WD High. Is this true? I know that you're only supposed to shift into 4WD High when going slower than 62 mph, maybe that's how the rumor got started?

Why would you want to? If the roads are snow covered, you have no business driving faster than 60mph

Why wouldn't you want to? We're men and we challenge all the things and do stuff a lot more dumb than this.

Sometimes the side streets are snow covered and the highways are just wet... I usually just leave it in 4 for the highway

Mostly its for highway driving in Colorado/Wyoming/Montana which I do regularly. The front range is terrible at clearing roads in a timely manner since the wind frequently does most of the work, so you can get long clear stretches where you can go 75, then find a drift where you need to slow down, followed by another clear stretch...

Basically I don't want to constantly switch back and forth.

I switch to 4x4 once every month to exercise the 4x4 components as mentioned in the manual. I do this on rainy highways, where there are less curves to avoid binding, but can reach speeds of 65mph.

Whatever road conditions allow in 4wd hi As said earlier, if in straight line even if dry roads go as fast as your heart desires.

There sure are lots of opinions on this thread.

You should be fine at highway speeds, but truth be known that top speed is ONLY 87 mph in designated areas only!

We ALL know what happens at 88 mph!

There is "warning" on the driver visor about shifting into 4wd (hi) below 62 mph. There is another "warning" (somewhere) about driving in 4wd (lo) faster than a walk.

Yes that is correct. Shifting from 2wd to 4wd should be done under 62mph.

Sometimes when I am heading "up north to Canada from Texas" ... on interstate 29 from Kansas City to Fargo ... the i29 can within 10 minutes become a sleet icy mess. Of course I slow down for road conditions, but it is nice to switch on the fly to 4wd just in case some "black ice" sneaks up. In South Dakota the i29 is elevated across the FLAT prairie land for hundreds of miles and the highway can be dry, wet, sleety, icy, and black ice ... great to have 4x4 for safety and assurance.

Remember the best tool in these situations is the tool on your shoulders ... took many years of being backwards, sideways, on the side, and once upside down in the DITCH for my stubbornness to fade away and common sense like SLOWING DOWN and properly using the 4x4 equipment to get to my destination safe and sound.

    Safe driving everyone

seems like there are a lot of pussies in here relying on 4wd. I've driven my 550+HP RWD g8 extensively in the snow. And boy is it fun to pass 4wd trucks in the snow

Since 4wd does zippo to help you stop, in poor traction conditions like ice, why would you want to drive faster?

That thinking is what gives the news photographers nice video of pileups as people slide down a hill, completely out of control.

Wonder how your g8 would perform in the good old Canadian wheat fields of Alberta?

And what the hell does that have to do with going over 60mph? Remember, I own both vehicles. I don't need to pretend eithe my G8 or Tacoma can do things that they can't.
