I have an 09 so my part # doesn't lkely match but the extension does the same thing and was held on essentially the same with clips and my toe would get caught on it a lot

This isn't directed at you but I'm not sure why people who's driving position is such that the vent extension doesn't bother them spend so much energy trying to convince the OP and others that do have an issue that its not an issue

Seriously , takes 30 seconds to remove , doesn't effect the heat duct performance ,

if it gets in the way ~

Step 1 ~ take it off

if it doesn't get in your way ~

    Step 2 ~ skip step 1 above

I found the foot well area to be pretty small when I got my Tacoma. I've since changed how I position my foot on the go pedal to use more of my toe/side of my foot which then doesn't put as much 'boot' up under the dash. This also helped me from pressing on both the gas and brake at the same time when wearing my LL Bean boots.

I wasn't trying to convince otherwise.

I guess Toyota redesigned the angle of the extension over the years, and that's a good thing.

Thanks for that. If this problem doesn't affect you, great. If it does, I hope this thread helped. It does seem like several folks have found the same issue.

yes, I have done the mods
Yep. Noticed the same vent in the way of my foot when I was test-driving the Tacoma. Bought the Tacoma, removed that 87230 vent before I was off the dealer lot.

So it appears I tossed the piece and cant get the photo I wanted (showing the boot contacting the part) but to show what this is all about....

Here you can see the duct coming into the foot well. The part being discussed is an extension to this, about 6" going further towards the driver door and downward (refer to schematic), which is supposed to direct air at both feet. With that extension in place the boot contacts it during braking when pivoting the heel on the floorboard. In the photo, the heel is resting on the floorboard and you can see how the motion would hit the extension... if it were there. This is a size 10 boot, nothing huge. I'm surprised more folks dont run into this.

I have a size 15 and no issues across several pair of boots, including logger soles that are similarly extending beyond the toe box.

So not entirely surprised there aren't more complaints of this, first I've heard of it myself.

It definitely has a lot to do with how I drive. I dont toe the pedals, I rest my heel and have the ball of my foot doing the contacting. I tend to sit closer to the wheel/pedals than most my size would.

But oh well. Im not trying to be a b*tch or call Toyota out or anything, just thought others might be annoyed by this also and wanted them to know its an easy fix.

I am sure this has everything to do with how you sit and position your foot. I'm 5'9 and wear a 10.5 shoe and I like to be relatively jammed up in my truck too but I usually position my toe pointing more parallel with the ground, toeing the pedal, so to speak than up toward the vent.

    Good thing it's a 5 sec fix!
