Yeah I only used the prestone on the second flush, im on about the 4th or 5th flush now. If I had to guess going from the rest of the work done (or not done on this truck) I would say this is the second time the radiator has been flushed.

Gosh, well like i said i know its normal for it to look like that with a flush chemical but id of guessed it should be clean by now...i dont really know what to say about it at this point. Id say do it once more and call it good i guess???idk

Yeah I have one more gallon of distilled water and I don't really feel like buying more lol after this one I think I'm going to just call it good. The truck has ran fine so far so I'm going to say the discoloration is a non-issue and just keep my eye on the thermostat for a while. I'm in az now so that's my only concern when summer comes and I'm driving in 110 degree weather.

Just a little update. That's the drain pan I used with tons of rust sediment on the bottom and the other picture is where the radiator hose goes into the engine. Extremely rusty in there. Think I should use more flush and just run it fr a couple days to try to clean that all out or is it a lost cause and just let sleeping dogs lie?

Just leave it alone, you did what you could. All you can do is use the correct antifreeze and hope for the best at this point. Besides, a little rust isn't going to do any real harm.

You could run it for a couple days and do one more drain and fill, itll pry help a lil more to get some more sediment out. Looks to be the damn PO was not interested in the upkeep and maintenance of the cooling system....

Yeah I can tell you first hand he was more interested in putting on stickers, tinting the windows, installing a sweet 3 inch body lift, and throwing on some 33" tires than he was in regular maintenance. When I got it I drained and filled the differentials and transfer case and I dont think it had been done the entire life of the truck. Radiator was probably done once before me because it didnt have the OEM pink coolant.

Quick question, I have never seen any coolant in the overflow reservoir of my truck. Usually it's empty. Should I put coolant in it?

yes. but first take it out and put water in there to make sure there aren't any leaks. youll have to remove the battery hold down to slide it out. thats about it.

You should get a large jug of CLR or Lime-a-way. Pour the whole bottle in with DISTILLED WATER. RUn the car for a few minutes and let it sit overnight. That will get rid of all the rust.

Using tap water and non OEM coolant is why you have all this rust.

Okay so I checked last night and there is about an inch or two of coolant in there (right after I shut off the truck). So I guess it's fine. I must never actually look in it. Which reminds me, I probably need to do a flush soon.

Oh I always take it in to the dealer and let them work their magic there. OEM coolant all its life.

They use tap water. Also charge you $40 for a $30 jug of coolant.

Aw man... that sucks. I was hoping they'd at least use pre-mix or something. Guess I'll have to do it myself..
