I re did my switch today with an OTRATTW switch and used a relay so it will light up when the switch is on.

Yeah I like it. I wasn't sure if I could compete a ground with a relay but it worked perfect and lights up the switch.

Thanks OP!!! Just did this mod and it works great!! I was skeptical at first weather I could still use my rear locker on 4 LO. But it works I was also scared of frying my ABS module for this mod. But looking into it, it was ok to do the mod and safe as well (so far at least... Fingers crossed) But I'm on my way up to Tahoe for next couple of weeks. I'm Going to share a full review on his mod soon. Thanks again op!

You're welcome. I use mine all the time when off road and around snow and ice. Works very well. :)

Remove the AC control panel above, it is really easy - just pry on the bottom corners with screw driver to release latches on bottom then pull some more to get latches on the top. Came out pretty easy. Then you can reach with long fingers down from there and push out the blanks.

Completed this mod and used the Air On Board switch but without lighting (since the switch lighting arrangement won't work for a pull down to ground as this mod requires, though someone posted a relay circuit to make it work if you insist on lighting). Gave it a test and it works great! Took my time doing it, a bit of threading wires and what not because of the switch location in the center under the A/C controls (I have no blanks on the left).

One again thanks to OP for a great write up and discovering an easy and very effective mod!

Sorry everyone, my search skills are failing me. Apologies in advance if this has been covered before in this thread.

Does anyone know what the minimum current rating should be for the switch? I assume this is a logic level circuit but have no idea WRT actual current the switch might see.

Great mod, been looking for this since ABS was born. Thanks CROM!

I didn't use a wire tap connector, I've had trouble with them in the past. Each different color has a range of wire they fit, so they don't really fit any specific wire size exactly. The v-notch can damage the strands of the wire and you can't tell unless you open it and look, which defeats the purpose. So I just soldered the tap and protected it with a short piece of heat shrink. No possibility of a loose connection from off-roading bumps and bounces. Just my experience with them, if you like 'em, use 'em. Even if the tap goes bad, no harm done, other than repairing the wire at the tap. More - http://tech.bareasschoppers.com/resources/the-problem-with-wire-tap-connectors/

My '06 TRD off road has 3 accessory blanks and I wanted to use one. I found a USA made aftermarket spst push switch that would snap into one of the blank spots. This also allows return to stock without much work at all.. just pop it out, unplug it, snap in the blank. $28 on Ebay, a little pricey but I wanted the look. It even lights up if you want. I didn't. If you do, dash light voltage goes to blue/green (light) wires ONLY, not the red/black (switch) wires, your ABS ECU won't like it.

    Ebay store - http://stores.ebay.com/on-board-air-usa

They have different looks to pick from. Measure your blank so you get the right one. Otherwise any spst switch will work. Have fun threshold braking like it should be!

Later on, I changed the dash switch to one with "ABS" stamped on it, to keep nosey technicians from fiddling with it. Air Onboard has them if you're interested. Next post has a link.

I ordered a switch directly from aironboard.com that will fit one of the center switch blanks in my '13. Went with green/green to somewhat match factory.

    http://www.aironboard.com/online/pu...toyota-oem-replacement-abs-off-led-green.html

Not that there is any state inspection in Ohio, but I bet most inspectors in other states wouldn't even notice it. I'd just tell them that Baja's came that way :D Like 06Tacooo, I could always just pop it out and put the blank back in if I even want to return to factory.

Anyway, check out aironboard.com. They have tons of cool switches and other stuff to fit factory mounting points.

Is it illegal to disable the ABS? I like the switch you posted but wouldn't use it if the inspector would see that and fail the truck.

    No.

There is no federal requirement. I can't speak to all the individual state laws. My state doesn't do inspections.

If my state did, I'd refuse to talk, or answer any questions from the inspector or any state, or government actors. :D

At inspection time if truck is good, its good, so this mod should be a non issue, but that's my best guess.

I grew up in PA, where one of the strictest and most nonsensical inspection systems exists, and most of my buddies are still in Pittsburgh. My friends and I were, and still are hot rodders, so we know about getting modified stuff through inspections. If it isn't obvious or clearly unsafe it won't be caught during the safety inspection. A button in a stock location using the same font and colors won't get a second look. You'd have much more trouble with off-road lights, non-stock bumpers, lifts, and bigger tires, but I doubt anyone on this forum would suggest that these should be avoided.

It would be easy enough to return to stock.. pop out the switch, unplug it, snap in the blank.. done.

So I just wired up the same switch, along with a few other OTRATTW switches for auxiliary lights, and realized that I will need a relay for the ABS killswitch to work properly. I'm somewhat electrically illiterate with relays being used outside of standard lighting applications. Could you provide an explanation or wiring diagram on how you wired up the relay? I have an idea of how it should [might] be wired, but figured I'd ask you since you're the only person I've found that wired up an OTRATTW switch with success.

EDIT: I got the relay figured out and the killswitch works great, but the killswitch will only work with my headlights/parking lights off. Has anyone else had this problem when wiring the switch up with several other switches that control light bars, etc.?
