Hey guys. I'm running 265/70/16 BFG all terrains and I've got some dry rot. It's mainly between the treads although there are some tiny tiny splits in the sidewall. The tires are older. The date is 3708 and I'm probably around 40% tread (maybe lower?). I'm wondering how near in the future I should replace them. I've attached a picture. I can slip the corner of a 3x5 index card into the largest of the cracks. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks a lot!

Me personally, I'd only be concerned about the sidewall rot. I'm running a set of ancient mud tires with cracks probably 1/6 inch deep and 1-2 mm wide in between the tread. But the sidewall is flawless so it never really bothered me any. I'm sure just about everyone else is gonna tell you to replace them asap though. And to be honest they are pretty bald. Id start looking for a new set, but I wouldn't have a problem driving on what you've got until then.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the rot, they're not likely to blow apart or anything because of it. The concern is traction, the rubber is hardening and will not perform well. If you live in a warm, dry climate, that's not a big deal. If you live somewhere wet though, you're going to want to replace them sooner than later.

One can never have too many light bars.
My old BFG's developed a lot of similar cracking but they lasted a few years after it started showing. You should be fine as long as you don't push them too hard.

I'd replace them myself. Tires undergo a tremendous amount of stress. When they start to check or crack like that, it's a roll of the dice how long until one of them fails.

Thanks for the input, fellas. I went ahead and replaced them. I got paranoid and kept visualizing having a blowout on the interstate so I had to do something haha.
