Duratracs are a year-round tire, so they are made with a harder compound, which does not stay as pliable in the cold.

I prefer using actual snow tires in the winter, like Blizzaks, which are a softer compound that stays more pliable in the cold, and has increased grip on ice. Only hassle is swapping tires during the seasons.

Sorry about your "little incident", Forster46. I'm glad you weren't injured. If we drive, little incidents like this happen to all of us. Just a part of life, I guess.

Sorry about your accident man. I'm always amazed how well the Tacoma holds up in an accident, yours looks like it kept you safe! Good luck in the search for a white dc.

That's a hard way to justify a new truck! Glad you're ok, and it sounds like you weren't going too fast. In Canada, we drive on icy roads quite a bit, so losing it can happen to anyone. Winter tires help, and are the law in some jurisdictions. Any pick up truck is pretty dangerous on ice without winter tires. On the other hand, when you have winter tires you feel invincible, and have to avoid over driving the conditions by using some self discipline.
