Put a space heater underneath if you have one that sits low enough (obviously not directly under it).

A handheld won't put out a very good signal, unless you adapt an external antenna. You will be like Ron Burgundy in a glass case of emotion inside your truck.

I have the Midlands. It is a great choice. Can unhook it and toss it in the glove box when not in use if you want to. Can simply add a permanent (badass) antenna and just leave it on the truck or use a Lil Wil on the hood, ect.

You had the pivoting antenna mount as well, right?

As badass as that looks, I don't have the resources to commit my truck to look like the righteous rig that is yours.

As a random weekend offroader, a handheld with external antenna is probably my best option.

LOL! Do you think a magnetic mount will suffice with a 4 mile range handheld? That's my plan as it stands.

That's where I'm heading, I think. Just run the antenna wire out of the top or the door or window as needed.

The temporary mount is likely my plan. Since I'll only get to use it when offroading with groups like this or during the zombie apocalypse, I think a temporary solution would be best.
