It is a valve problem. The 2.7L have a problem with the valves banging in to the seats. When this happens the cam holds the valve open and it leaks. The correct repair is to replace the valves and the seats. Check with the machine shop first. If they are familiar with this problem they will recommend after market parts. Using o.e. parts will cause you to do this job again in a few years. Good luck

My 99 Tacoma 4x4 2.7L (190K miles) had all the same symptoms as listed on this thread and we went down the list of trouble shooting suggestions. I even replaced the injectors without an improvement to the rough idle and P301 and P301 codes. The valves were checked and found to be out of adjustment. Exhaust valve on #3 was the worst and we were only able to adjust the exhaust valve on cylinder #3 to .008" when it should be between .010"-.012", which means the valve has damaged the seat, or the valve is worn out. After valve adjustment it runs much better, but next time it begins to run rough and throw misfire codes it will need a head rebuild. Thanks for your help along the way.

Man I tried that sea foam on a 96 cavalier. I have never seen so much blue smoke come out of one exhaust. My neighborhood was filled with it. My engine ran better, stronger, more excelleration and that first tank of fuel lasted me 28 days. I only drove 4 miles each way but unreal. I am thinking of trying it on my 06 with 54kmiles. I poured half while the car was running into my vacume line into the throttle body until the engine stalled then I poured the rest into my tank let the car sit for about an hour and revved the crap out of it like it said to do.
