To lift or not to lift?

    It's about time to get new tires for me and I was thinking of maybe doing a 3 inch lift in the front with 1 inch in the back. My wheels are 31.6 inches right now, so I would probably go up one size close to 33.

    I have a few questions though. I currently run bfg kos and I get about 14 mpg regardless of if I'm on the highway or city.. I also have the TRD supercharger (don't know if it changes mpg). If I were to get a lift and put 33s on, what kind of gas mileage should I expect?

    Second, my rig has 39,000 miles on it right now. How hard is a lift on a truck, I want my truck to last to at least 200,000. Would there need to be major maintenance in order to keep it going to 200k?

    Also, any pics of 3 inch lifted true KS with 32 or 33s would be much appreciated! Thank you all in advance for your help!

    I love my lift. I don't see any long term reliability issues with the lift. I think if anything the SC should be of more concern when it come to long term reliability but even that I don't believe you could have any issues.

    Lift it and enjoy it.

    If you don't plan on off-roading and worry about mileage, lifting and bigger tires shouldn't even be a consideration.

    As for the lift "putting on extra wear" to the truck depends on how you lift it. High end lifts will be more expensive, but won't wear anything down as long as you do it right.

    I went Icon stage 4. I love it. No maintenance issues. I'd go stage 7 next time to get the adjustable dampening with 700# coils for the big bumper. Still may get the coils.

    Well I've got a V6, auto trans, on 265s, with a 3" lift and I'm getting on average 17mpg, and I've got a hell of a lead foot, man your mileage SUCK's! Here is mine, lot of Luck.1122151002b1.jpg.

    Lots of questions here.

    Gas mileage on 33s and lift: Sucky. Yours already seems to suck more than others, so it'll probably suck even more.

    Major maintenance to keep it going to 200k: Getting into maintenance on the entire truck is a whole different thread - and there are tons of write-ups on proper maintenance on here - but I'll touch on the lift piece. Any lift is going to naturally put more stress on factory components. You're changing the truck from what it was designed for, so certain things are going to wear out sooner. However, it's arguable HOW much sooner, and isn't really a huge deal, as long as you lift the vehicle correctly.

    Overall: Decide what you need it for. I drive my truck on long road trips for work and personal uses a LOT, so lifting it right now isn't smart for me. A few years down the line if I become more static, then I'm sure I will. It's all about what you need the truck for. That being said, probably 90% of the guys on here with their trucks lifted don't actually NEED their trucks lifted - it's mainly to look cool. So, if you're going down that route, then fuck it - lift it!

    I'd recommend running any lifts you're considering by these guys. And please no Rough Country. Please....... no Rough Country.

    I do go 4 wheeling often and still don't feel the need for a lift. I don't rock crawl but love exploring the back roads of AZ. Why people lift daily drivers is beyond me. I run 265/75's on my Off Road and still get 19-20 city, but I did not put 50+ pound tires on my truck either like many do around here.

    IMO...choosing a lighter weight tire is the key to decent mileage. A 55+ pound tire versus a 40-45 pound tire makes a big difference on how much energy is needed to get and keep it turning.
