The dude behind the current gen RAM is Fred Diaz. He left RAM a few years ago to work with Nissan to get their next gen Titan out. That could be the answer to the similarities between this and Dodge.

It's an AAM axle-I read somewhere it has a 13" ring gear, but I doubt that- being a dana 80 only has a 11.5" ring gear.

    From Nissan's web site
    NEW AXLE AND DIFFERENTIAL
We’ve swapped out the rear end for a bigger, tougher purpose-built axle from the folks over at American Axle Manufacturing (AAM). This vital component has been proving itself for years in the workhorse lineup of Nissan Commercial vehicles, and it’ll have you towing

, tugging, winching, and pulling pretty much anything you need to tow, tug, winch, or pull.

aam makes the rear axles in the gm and dodge HD trucks as well. The big grill is probably to keep the Cummins cool, it takes a good bit of airflow to cool these newer h.o. Diesels especially when the air has to travel through the intercooler, tranny cooler, and condensor before it ever gets to the radiator. I agree its a bit fuggly but should be a fun ride with 310 ponies and 555 ft lbs with the Cummins.

Interesting ad that acknowledges prior pickups: 1970 C10 Chevrolet (first marketed as capable daily driver), the 1985 Dodge W250 (the first with a Cummins engine) and the 1995 Ford F-150 (the first with an Eddie Bauer trim package).

Looks like a super bowl ad-No idea what its about (until the end)...89 was the first production year of a Cummins in a Dodge.

^The head of Ram Trucks moved to Nissan, if I remember correctly. Things should get interesting.
