Using my GoPro mount as a SpeedPass base. Need advise

I do not own or plan to own a GoPro cam. My truck came with the GoPro mount. I am thinking about using it as a base for my SpeedPass. For those of you that own and use GoPro, can I just buy a stick on piece that I can attach to the back of my speed pass and then slide it in and out of the GoPro windshield mount? If that exists, what is it called and where can I get it?

There are a lot of GoPro accessories and clips out there. What you're probably going to have to do is find the right clip that you can modify to work for you. Most of the clips are going to have the three walls for camera part, so I would think you may need to do some dremel work to get it how you want.

Edit: It looks like the "clip" that goes into the GoPro mount is called a Buckle. Just an fyi.

 

As said above, yes - there are tons of choices. I would suggest looking at a local seller of GoPro accessories so you can see the stuff in person. That should give you a good idea of what you are dealing with and then you can look online for further options if needed.

Also - some of the GoPro bases are flat and some are concaved to stick on a helmet or other rounded surface - you probably want flat.

 

If I were to place the actual GoPro cam into the mount on my windshield, is there a stock clip that's attached to the GoPro, which would slide in and out of the mount?
I was thinking that there has to be a peek and stick part that sticks on to the camera and then slides into the mount.
For those who own a GoPro, am I wrong?

You can get various pieces to connect the two together. I would suggest looking at the kits on Amazon that will have everything you will need in one package like this:

Speedpass? Is this the old credit card thing or something new? Why does it need a mount for toll roads or something?

 

Three legs, same as the buckle, won't work. OP needs this same item with two legs so it'll actually mesh with the buckle. Dollars to donuts there's something perfect already up on Shapeways.

 

He needs a flat adhesive mount, two buckles (one for the adhesive mount and one for the windshield mount) and a couple of extension pieces to link it all together. All of that is contained in the $12 kit I linked to above. You could probably build a couple of them and have plenty of stuff left over to give away to a buddy with a GoPro. I could mock it all up and take a picture if you want - I think I have all of those parts at home.

 

Something similar to this would work pretty well with the addition of a GoPro buckle. It's priced too damn high, but it's on the right track. Hell, a buckle integrated with just a flat section below parallel to the windshield would work okay. I could probably draw it up in a bit and have it uploaded tonight. OP, what's the size and shape of your SpeedPass?

 

I have a billion go pro mounting pieces from a 50 piece set. Too bad you are not closer.

 

Alright, this is what I'm thinking of:



This is a super fast model, the red would be part of the same piece as the grey, needs smoothing and a better arm, but the basic idea is there. Square area is 2" x 2". Anyway, I'm off to grab my kid from school, but something to think about.

Thanks but I have a printer. If this is something that works for OP I'll just throw it on Shapeways at $0 markup until it's verified to work and then mark it up $1.50 or so for the long haul. I know the buckle works because I've done a few things incorporating the buckle before (hence the short modelling time), what I'm not sure about is the transponder that OP needs to carry and the arm would need modification to hold whatever it is. In my state they are basically decals but I know in some other states they use small brick shaped transponders and who knows what else.

 

Like the keychain? Now I'm just confused. Either way, the answer is pretty much no, what the OP wants probably doesn't exist, but certainly can.

 

No. I am talking about a toll speed pass. The square thing you mount on your windshield that gets read as you pass through a toll booth. A simple stick on that glues to the back of the speed pass and then the whole thing slides into the GoPro mount on the windshield is what I meant. That drawing with red and gray is exactly what I meant.

 

It's 3.5"x 3" and about .5" deep. Thank you so much for all your work on this.
