I know this is probably been covered but its driving me nuts.2010 Tacoma 4 cyl. 119000 miles.Runs perfect but it started ticking about a month after an oil change.Everything is the same type.Oil filter.I start it up and it will start ticking.Once it warms up it goes away.If I put my foot down just a little bit it will go away.Just at idle and now worse when its cold out.But it did do it when it was warm also.Bought truck about 6 months ago.I have changed oil again and its still the same.Am I worrying for nothing? Can the valves be adjusted on this 3.7

If you have a 4cyl your engine is 2.7L. It most likely is the Tacoma "tick". Do you notice it say at a drive up ATM or fast food drive through? You could try different grade fuel sometimes that makes it less loud.

Both the 2.7L and the 4.0L have the tick. Mine does it some days and others it doesn't. I read on here somewhere in another thread about the tick.....Tacoma loud and proud. Actually if you engine makes the tick sound it always dose it just is less noisy sometimes. There are threads on here guys that really get bugged by the tick did minor mods to make it very quiet.

Yours probably has done it since new and you might not have noticed when you got it. But then when you did you tend to notice it.

These engines are noisy anyway so you can miss the tick untilmit ear worms you. It doesn't bother me but I knew what it was.

Your 2.7 doesn't need the valves adjusted like the 04 and downs do so I wouldn't worry about that. And honestly I wouldn't worry about it too much, these are noisy engines to begin with. My 2.7 ticks when it's below 15 degrees outside on cold start, but quickly goes away once it warms up a bit. Don't let it get to you, unless it's making a real racket I wouldn't be too concerned. If you want to hear a loud engine go watch someone with a 22RE with worn timing guides start their truck, sounds like a blender full of rocks, but they just keep on going.
