Was at the dealership yesterday to inquire about how long it will take before the long beds arrive. Looked at a nice QSSR5 short bed to give the wife an idea of what the color looks like in real life. Was told it would be awhile that we would see LBs in our area so we left our contact information and headed out the door.

Later I received a text that they would be happy to order a truck for me if I wanted to come in and work a deal so Monday I have an appt to order my DC Off Road. Expected delivery will be 8 - 12 weeks and I'm pretty damn stoked about the deal. I expect the price to be pretty close to MSRP due to the very limited availability of the LBs in our area right now. None of our 5 area dealers have any in their current inventory or are expecting an OR LB any time soon, most will either be an SR5 or Sport.

As for color, I was on the fence between white, dark grey or quicksand but after seeing the QS color again, I decided on a QS Long bed offroad no tech package to replace my 04 DC SR5 4X4 with 150k miles.

This will be my 5th Toyota truck and third Tacoma in 30 years. Previous trucks were an 86 regular cab 4X2, 91 regular cab 4X4 V6, 99 Regular cab 4X4 SR5 and the 04 DCab.

Don't worry, the 04 is staying in the family, its being sold to my son. It's time he starts loving Toyota trucks like his dad. He's also getting a sweet deal with a deep family discount.

Mods on the 04 are 5100s set to level front and back, 265/75/16 Goodyear Wranglers, Ivan Stewart Tundra TRD wheels, CBI Offroad bolt on sliders, UWS lowpro toolbox and a Sony HU media player.

I ALMOST didn't want to give up the 04 but the boy needs reliable transportation when he goes off to college and it's about time I treat myself to something new.

Yep, the QS color will not be too much different from the Gold on the 04. I love how it never looks dirty and looking forward to more bed space!

I'm starting to see more white, black and grey 16s running around here, have only seen two QS on the lots and both were SBs.

Mods for the new truck will probably be limited to just sliders, another tool box and upsizing the tires when the stockers wear out.

Does anyone know if the 16 slide rail system is the same as the 2nd gen?

Truck has been ordered, Quicksand DCLB Offroad with tow package and factory roof rack, no additional tech package, expected delivery is 8 -12 weeks.

I may also pick up a set used TRD black beadlock style and run without the trim rings, I really like the look.

Not sure about the trim ring screw holes, I may reinstall them with spacers or just plug them with 8mm plastic plugs like this.tire10.jpg

I looked at the TRD Pro wheels but just not interested in going up to 17s.

Once the stock tires are worn out, I'll upsize to 265/75/16 just like the 04 has.

You are in for a nice surprise. I have a 2002 Tacoma 4x4 DCB TRD Limited sitting in the driveway and it's a night and day difference between the two trucks. One thing I do miss about the 2002 is just how easy it is to park. It just feels so small compared to the 3rd gen. Congrats on the order.

    Thanks.

That's why the 04 is staying in the family, it's too good of a truck to turn over to strangers.

You might want to go around to several Toyota dealerships and find someone that has an allocation "already" coming in, in the set up closest to what you are looking for.

I considered that but I don't mind waiting for exactly what I want. Besides my first gen isn't exactly a shit box and I haven't been in a hurry to give it up to the son too soon. It will be a good time to spend driving it while I wait on the new one to arrive.

Well I took your advice and sure enough, a higher volume dealer has one coming in exactly as I want. I received my build date of 6 Feb (CA built truck), expected delivery to the dealer will likely be early or mid March. Other dealership that I gave the first deposit to didn't even have an order in yet and its been almost three weeks.

Mock VIN also received so now the countdown really begins!
