Both. I'm assuming these are drain holes, so hopefully Toyota comes up with a remedy that will eliminate the noise and still allow water to escape.

thanks. If this is the source of the sound, I heard someone mention the arms from the 2015s may fit. I wonder if a simple swap out could work.

I tried this, figured what the hell, Actually worked, can't say it was a whistling noise more like a howling noise like blowing over the top of a empty beer bottle noise. I did take the tape off then, they are most likely drain holes and I don't want to trap water in there. But good to know what it is.

I'm thinking that you can leave a small portion of the hole uncovered for water drain.
worst case it changes to a higher pitch sound. lol
its worth a try. ill see what happens
fyi: when I first got the truck the sound wasn't obvious, then It seemed to have
gotten a little louder over time, or maybe I just noticed it more.

You guys crack me up. Why wouldn't the second gen guys have found this out? Wait and see, the howl will be back. I've only had the howl once, and it was in 50mph crosswinds, and it was nowhere near the lower arm.

    I agree with you.
if I only had the howl once id rather wait and see too.
since it took almost a minute to put on some tape I thought
it was a cheap and quick test. (haven't taken it out yet for a test drive)
Has someone with a second gen try this that you read about or know of?

In my case, it's not an occasional howl.

My howl was severe and constant from 35-50 or so mph regardless of wind conditions. I've been listening to it daily since I bought my Tacoma in early November.

Covering the holes today eliminated the noise.

ok so I also taped the holes and went for a 20 mile test drive varying from 25 to 45 mph.
there was no whistling sound. nothing. well nothing so far. could it have moved the
sound to a different speed or pitch? maybe. I haven't gone on the freeway yet.
so far it looks good, but too soon to tell. the whistling sound on my truck was always there
    before the fix.
if anyone out there has done this fix and it hasn't resolved the whistle sound please
    let us know.

Thanks! Will be taping tonight. I had taped a whole bunch of stuff under there one day, but hadn't hit those. The noise has always been there for me at 35-45, but it has never bothered me. Wouldn't have noticed if people hadn't pointed it out. However now I think about it thanks to the internet, lol. It should be pretty easy to come up with a permanent solution that still allow water through.

If this seems to work, it would be a good idea to post a new thread "Wind noise 35-45 mph? Try this:"

I think I'm going to try the LCA plugs... i went out to my truck when it was parked with a crosswind and could hear the "infamous bottle sound" when it was just sitting at my work. Leaned down and sure enough its coming from that area of the truck.

I think your weighing these things a little too heavily. Some people have issues, I just discovered this whistling noise, but as with any forum for any product you'll hear a lot more negative stuff than positive. Forum frequents are a loud minority
