That helps with the mating surface, right?

Ray, do you not have a gasket scraper? Because that's what you need.

Not a gasket scraper. I do have a razor blade with a handle. But the razor is to sharp. I'm using a flat head right now. So far it's doing the job. But it's going to take time I guess.

I wouldn't worry too much about scratches, it's a silicone gasket not cork or rubber so I'm pretty sure it will fill any scratches. Wire wheel back in the day to remove the old cork and rubber from the Chevy's and apply Permatex red or blue or black, whatever is in the tool box, and seal it up.

That stuff is a pain in the balls. The problem is the lip of the pan is contoured so you really have 3 levels of surface to scrape off. Takes forever but you'll get it

Clearly the only reasonable solution at this point is to put a real transmission in there and ditch that slush box.

I was planing on using this for the gasket. It's the right stuff right. Just double checking before I have to scrape this again.

Ray, you're a smart guy so I know you know better than to listen to this nonsense.

I'd confirm with someone more knowledgeable than me but..... I'd honestly be tempted to hit it with a wire wheel. It's not like we're talking about a machined surface and a gasket. It's stamped metal with a raised ridge in the middle and the whole thing is going back in with form-a-gasket right? I think the most important thing would be to figure out and use the correct form-a-gasket material.

Edit: which I see you've already fingered out. :D

I'm so temped but. Something about scratching it is driving me crazy. I can't find it in me to scratch it.

Sometimes, and again I can't stress enough how little I know about what I'm talking about, the way to do these things is to put the form a gasket on there and bolt it up very loosely, just so that the gasket material is all touching, let it cure, and then tighten things down from there.

You should completely ignore this advice unless someone confirms it. :D

I'd check the FSM to be sure on the torque sequence.
