    I've test driven three and never even asked, just said I was wanting to look.

    I would guess age and profiling were probably the biggest reasons OP didn't get to drive one.

    The dealership I got my STI from wouldn't let me test drive it until I nearly committed to buying. I still could have walked away but I liked it too much.
