Holy crap I just looked at the OP and my jaw dropped. Wtf is that.

    I was referring to what I've done with my 2010 & 2014 (and CBR600RR & F4i), sorry. :(

But what the hell, try it with the new style filter. Not going to cost you anything but time.

There is only about 1/2" of metal to grab. I suppose a belt would work if filter isn't very tight

Guys seems like you are too young to recall but these were common back in the 50's I remember seeing them on chevy's and chryslers.

So these are easier or harder to change out on your own? Never had a canister system before and always change my own after the free ones.

What's the correct size of the oil filter wrench?
Some people say 64 other 64.5.
Someone that can confirm the correct size?

How is there less oil waste, if the oil that you take out during a change is waste?

Gotcha! I drain my filters quite well anyways, and recycle them in the metal bin. The oil goes to the local catch tank at the recycling depot.

Thanks for this thread! I am scheduled to get an oil change on my 2016 V6 shortly. I had several Toyota 04152-YZZA1 filters left that I use in my wife's Lexus. I wasn't sure if this filter fit the new V6. I started a thread inquiring if this was the right filter and another Forum member responded that it was--the only reply I got. Had I notice this thread earlier I wouldn't have bothered him with my thread. I've only been a member of Tacoma.com for a short period of time. I was (an still am) a member of Tundra Solutions, but as you might imagine, their emphasis is highly to Tundras, one of which I sold ('12 TRD) to get the Tacoma. For the purpose I need a truck, the Tundra was just too f****** big with a backup camera the size of a postage stamp!

Please excuse my ignorance, but does the 2016 V6 still use those oil plug gaskets pictured?

Can you not remove the filter by hand like you would a canister filter?

Just found out, Wix has a better filter. They have the standard 57047 witch is same as OEM and they have a 57047XP that is a synthetic filter media that is rated with a beta ratio of 20. It is also sealed in rubber on the ends. Beta is the new tougher standard. I called Fram to see the what the specs were on there top of the line (they have 3 grades ). The XG9972 does not have a beta rating. I called for price on the wix but they had never sold it before and had to call for a price Monday. I'll let you know. Seems like most on here want the best for their taco.

No need to drop the front skid if you have one of these!!

Good to see a skid with a access panel. What backing does the access panel have? How thick are those strips? Are the backing strips just riveted on or welded?

I have a hard time picturing them riveting those strip if they were going to weld them. Just something to catch on a rock. I'm not sure, but my spider senses tell me they aren't welded.

Backing is 10ga (1/8" on aluminum skids) the aluminum version is both riveted and welded (the rivets merely align the parts so they are perfectly centered)

Whaaaat? Nice welds. Very nice welds. Why in the world are they riveted then, I wonder? Anything that can pop a weld can surely pop a rivet...
