I've been searching for a Haynes or Chilton type manual for my 2013 Tacoma. It seems like there is nothing out there for them. I know I could look everything up online but sometimes a manual in my hands is much easier than trying to navigate a website. Any insight to this?

Appreciate the help with that. Coming from always driving a Chevy since I was 16 (now 31) I'm used to having lots of manuals laying around haha!

If I get the 2 day subscription from TIS, how large are the files for download?

None of the files are large, but there are a LOT of them, and you have to rename them as you download them. I decided it wasn't worth the effort, so I pay the $15 whenever I need to access it. Only done that once or twice I think.

Look for a program called "wget". It's a command line program that will download a whole website without your intervention. It's available for Linux and OS-X and likely windows. There is also a program call "curl" that I've not used.

Thank you for the replies. We also have a Rav4, so I would be wanting to download two service manuals. Might be a weekend project. I will look into "wget" and "curl." Thanks again.

An abbreviated version 'til you have time to do the full download. Also useful for any Toyota with the 2GR-FE engine:

I agree - something like Mitchell's or AllData for $25-$30 a yr. vs. the outrageous $400 a yr. for FSM-only. My guess is they keep it high in an effort to steer customers towards their dealership network.

"As a Service" is its own industry.

Get used to it. Someone figured out you can sell something for $100 once and someone owns that product forever, and selling the same product for $15/month is much more profitable, especially if they lose everything when they stop paying you.

    Indeed.

I was meaning more like the Photoshop software as a service type thing. ;)

I'm an older guy, I honestly still prefer old paper manuals versus the electronic versions.

So I sat down this morning with the intent of getting the $15 subscription and downloading what I needed (Tacoma and Rav4). I checked the system requirements before purchasing and it turns out TIS is not compatible with a MAC! I still wouldn't trade my MAC for any PC, but that is another discussion.

    NOW WHAT???

Side note: We have been a Honda family for many years, these are our first Toyota's (2012 Tacoma and 2013 Rav4). While our Toyota experience has not been bad, my wife and I find ourselves saying "it is not a Honda" many times.

Now what? I guess you will need to get a PC.

Or maybe you could run Windows on your MAC like lots of people do... using Boot Camp software:

    http://www.howtogeek.com/187359/5-ways-to-run-windows-software-on-a-mac/

I also find myself saying this: " it is not a Honda, thank god! "

    :)
