I can't seem to get the factory map lights out. I just bought my new Tacoma yesterday and I'm trying to make the swap to led's. All I can find is videos on 2015 or older tacos.

You do not have to remove the panel. I didn't and had the same issue

This is the way I did it. I cleaned the build where I touched it with alcohol. (In my case I was sipping on some Black Label)

Take a 1/2" strip of duct tape and wrap the bulb as tight as possible then while holding the tape on the bulb pull on the other end of the tape. Comes right out.

Thanks, the duct tape worked perfectly.

I know this is old, but does it have to be exactly 0.5in? When you say wrap do you mean twist wrap or U wrap?

You just have to get tape on the bulb. Any tape will work. Make the tape the cone and the bulb the ice cream. Comes right out.

With a few forum members having issues and having to buy a new overhead console just for replacing incandescent bulb with led, I suggest following the repair manual instructions.

Finally got my map lights replaced with LEDs. I blew my fuse a couple times cause I accidentally hit the leads or something, replaced fuse and they're good. The tape trick worked perfectly. Next step: Dome and vanity. Though, I do feel stupid cause i jyst realized I posted in the wrong thread since mine is 2nd gen (2012 Tacoma Prerunner V6 TRD Sport.)

I love how everyone is coming up with mcgevor style methods to get these out, when literally all you have to do is pull down on the whole housing and turn the plastic housing for the bulb. I watched one video of Diode Dynamics where they said "use two fingers"... maybe if you have the smallest fingers in the world. Then all these geniuses talking about using tape. Why? Pull the damn housing down and make it easy. smh.

Same goes for the license plate bulbs. Everyone getting down under the truck to push in hard to reach tabs and they try to wiggle something in to push forward while pushing the tabs inward. Why? There are cut outs on the front of the housing on the exterior of the bumper that allow you to stick a knife in and pull while putting pressure on the tabs. At least the video on this thread covers that, but if you search google for it 99% of the videos are from idiots getting under the truck. Follow the heard I guess...

    K.I.S.S.
    Keep it simple, stupid.
